Does ANYONE mfg boats in last five years that are 33-40 feet in length that ARE NOT pods or I/o’s? I’m looking and trying to avoid canvas and to keep the drives simple. I boat in salt so want to avoid I/O and don’t really want to deal with pods. It seems impossible. Straight v drives anyone? Maybe some of the bridge boats?

Interesting concept. We had bare boat charter that required launching the dinghy then using a David which had a block and tackle to put the motor on and take it off. Granted not a big motor, 10hp or so.

I thought it was a hassle.

I am in the market for a boat, I Looked at 2013 -2018 400 and the 410 they have options for the v drive with bow and stern thrusters.
All three of them are controlled by a joystick, I think they said it was 60 % pods 40 % v drives.
At all the boats I looked at they all had pods, Can't seem to find v drives.

Single engine and 500kish....just too rich for me. Beautiful boats though

Paul has it right. Back Cove is about the only mfg making what you're looking for. I spent 7 years looking for other options.

Don't sniff at the single engine. The big Cummins single in a BC 34 will have it cruise at 28 mph /19 gph all day long. And the ride is, well, fantastic. A BC 37 has similar performance in a larger boat, but obviously a higher price tag.

At BC 34 will sell on the used market for $330-$415k around now, depending on options and age A BC 33 (same hull, different cabin layout) sells in the $200's. Both tend to sell fast.

Curious as to how they handle around the docks? Most have now and stern thrusters correct?

Yes, most have dual thrusters. I could go into lots of detail, but to sum it up: it handles like a dream. Ridiculously good.

BC34 handles great around the dock. I deal with big cross currents and wind almost every time I use the boat. No problem. Love this boat, but I am not biased. Best of all made in America.

The Back Cove 33 is the same hull as the Back Cove 34. The difference is the 34 has a queen size center line birth while the 33 has a bed to assemble every night. The Sabre 36 is the same hull with twins and lots of wood trim.

They are rarer but you can also find used Sabres in the 200 to 300k range with twin diesels and shafts. Even though Sabre introduced pods into the line up in 09 they continued to build shaft boats up until recently. We looked at a number when we were doing our new boat search and discovered that even the older ones had been kept up. We looked at a 1990 45 Aft cabin that could have easily been mistaken for new (except for the tired Detroit Diesels).
