Marina Jacks October 17th - pills and throttles don't mix well

The kids were a bit much.

I think I read somewhere that the boat was a “charter”. Rental would explain a lot.
How do you qualify to rent a boat like that when you are a complete moron? You should at minimum have boating education and experience to qualify to rent such a large boat. This guy shouldn’t be behind the wheel of anything!

Hurdle for renting is pretty low. That’s probably one of the factors in the bare boat charter market drying up.

Seriously looks intentional. And what was the lady on the back doing?
She was the bartender.

AFAIK, he was the "captain"/deck hand for the boat, and claims to have run it over 100 hours. He "borrowed" it from the owner to take his neighbor lady friend out for a day of pleasure boating. In the end, he was trying to back into the seawall slip beside the sailboat, and across from the Marlowe. That didn't go too well. I've seen captains borrow their owner's boats for personal use in much larger situations. Not so much anymore. The 80's are over........

From the Herald Tribune article:
Sheridan told officers he was attempting to dock but caught an east wind that blew him into other boats.
Officers said the amount of damage was not consistent with getting blown into another boat, the report states.
Sheridan told officers he did not have any mechanical failures. He spoke softly and said he had more than 100 hours operating the vessel he was on.

Larson told officers she was going to help Sheridan tie the boat off but noticed he was going to hit a dock piling and called out to him.
“Sheridan then just gassed the vessel hard,” she stated.
Neither Sheridan nor Larson would tell police where they were coming from or whether they were under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the report states.
Sheridan surrendered his license.

My boat insurance requires me to list all who will drive boat, courses and experience. Based on that I do not know if the owner of this boat would be covered by insurance. Anyone have any experience with others damaging their boat and related insurance claim.

If the owner reports it stolen I would think it would be covered?

The only thing that guy was running over was the other boats in the marina! I think it was his propellers which powered him into the other boats. If was wind it was some kind of divine satanic wind.

What’s interesting is the anchor is already knocked off and hanging to the side when he makes the crash landing..... so he must have been playing bumper cars earlier

4 vessels hit is the report. Not sure where. More will come out, I'm sure. May drive over tomorrow and check out the Tiara and the Marlowe.

As a wise person once said, "Immortality is assured by spectacular disaster!"

It’s amazing. A buddy of mine has a half dozen rentals. Pontoons (yuck) and a few runabouts.

I’ve gone out with him to rescue them many times and seen lots of busted boats come back.

Most common reason for rescue:

Boat won’t start.

Most common solution:

Put it in neutral.

He does what he can via an orientation session, but it’s mostly forgotten or lost on an oddly and predominantly Indian clientele.

He’s turned plenty of pissed off drunks away at the dock too.

He came in hot and continued to maneuver way too fast with numerous jerky turns. It was never clear which slip he was going for.

In the beginning of the video the lady mentions he'd already hit a piling and something else. I assumed something happened already since she started filming the boat when it was coming in even though nothing looked too out of place other than he was coming in too fast.

That's just it. All he was doing was going around looking like he wanted to ram boats. I have seen someone try to get into a slip and hit the throttles. Guy hit the boat next to him and took out the power pedestal. It wasn't pretty, but you knew what the guy was trying to do.

He went to jail for DUI resulting in damage, not for just hitting boats.
I'm still wondering why he threw a knife in the water after coming to rest at the dock.
