So I am sure this has been brought up before but how many hours will 8.1 engines last? I know it all depends on how they have been treated but just an average?? I am looking at purchasing a 34-41 foot sundancer and some have 300 and some have 800 hours...

1500-2000 hrs with correct maintenance and treatment is achievable.

Could last 2 hours, or 2,000 after you purchase. How they were maintained from 0 to when you bought it, as well as how you maintain them is what determines engine life.

Very few boat engines die - they’re more likely to be killed.
At the minute mine are now at 2650hrs. They both get regular oil changes and tune ups.

Out twin 454 have 3,300 hours. Do not use oil and boat goes as well as it did when we got it. Generator has 1,700 and seems OK.
