240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

It might be better to repair the original if it's broke.... You didn't say... Finding one is going to be hard... There are salvage yards possibly but that's just going to be luck. The good thing is that hatch never changed over quite a few years

I should have mentioned that it's just cracking badly along the piano hinge. We park on sandbars often so a lot of people ingress/egress over that hatch and it's starting to show.

Any recommendations on salvage yards? Thanks!

I agree with the above - it should be relatively easy fix for a decent glass guy. It can even be re-gelcoated to make it look pretty. BUT... are you sure the actual glass is bad? Or, is it just the gel that is showing spider cracking? If it's just the gel (which is much more common), you could just beef it up and be done with it.

I’m looking at purchasing a 2006 240 Sundeck. I will have to tow it a significant distance (45 minute drive) to/from the boat ramp and sometimes longer drives depending on where I go. My concern is with the boat size and towing. My tow vehicle is a 2016 Land Cruiser rated at 8100 pounds. The 240SD with trailer and gas should be around 6200 pounds. This will be the largest boat I have ever towed. Should I be concerned about towing capacity, or am I good?

Well, loaded up, it's going to be more like 7,500lbs with a steel trailer. An aluminum trailer will save you some weight. I've never trailered with your vehicle, so I can't directly answer that question. Some trucks do very well at or near their max - others struggle.

Asking about towing capacity/pulling power is fine, but that is not the important thing. The more important things are how the rig stops and acts in emergency maneuvers under hard braking.

If concerned use a weight distributing hitch....makes a big difference.... make sure your trailer brakes are working properly.... try it...see what you think before buying a new truck

I’m confident it will pull the weight since it’s a V8 (381hp/401tq) and all wheel drive. My concern is related to the braking as mentioned. The trailer has surge brakes. I may need to check out the weight distribution hitch.

Hi Everyone, new to the forum (but not to boats). I'm in Wisconsin (land of the short boating season) and have a 2001 240 Sundeck that I'm considering getting a hull wrap for. Sole reason is to give it an updated look. We love the layout and interior of the 2001, and ours is in great shape, otherwise we would just get a newer Sundeck.

I've searched the site, but haven't found any examples of a wrapped Sundeck. Anyone have any experience with this? Just looking for examples of how it might look. Likely going for a black hull but not sure if that would clash with the beige interior.

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread or the pics didn't upload, like I said I'm new here! Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard, Fergie :)

There was a factory option for a colored hull side. While it wasn't the entire hull, you could look at pictures on SR's website of '01-'09 240SD's for some perspective. If you look at newer boats, there was/is an option for full colored hull - you could look at those, as well. I think you look at those, it would give you a really good idea.

That said, this is really all a personal thing and the only opinion that matters is yours. But in my opinion, black and tan go really well together. In fact, a black hull with a tan interior has been done many times before so you should be able to find some pics.

I also think you would do well with a black/tan combination. But, if you are just trying to update the look to be more modern, you may save some money by just updating the graphics to something that looks more modern. It would be easier, and something you could do yourself. A wrap will cost several thousand dollars, and may be more than you want to invest in that boat for just cosmetics.

A fellow owner at my marina has one with a black hull and it looks really good. I contacted a local shop here in Norfolk VA that does very reputable work and they quoted $1500 to do a hull wrap, possibly a little more depending on how easy or not to remove the old graphics. Would have been having it done but have to a re-power first.

That's less than I would expect. Might be worth it for that... it would hide any scratches, add a nice gloss and give some new flair!

Hey Stephen. We have an ‘07 240 Sundeck with a 5.0mpi/bravo 3. We’re looking at a repower in the next couple months. What are you swapping in? I think we’re going with a 383mag stroker.

Hey everyone, we are in the market and I've fallen in love with the 240 floorplan. There are a few in my area (MD/DE coast) for sale that range from 2001-2007. I'm curious what I should be looking for with these boats both with the boat itself and the engine. I'm going to leave it behind our house on a canal most of the season with intentions of pulling monthly to clean it on the bottom and flush it out. With these engines, should I be concerned etc? Thanks in advance for the input.

I’m not sure exact years but at some point the dash had electronic switches (referred to as EIM or peanut pad due to shape). Other years had traditional rocker switches. When the electronic switches go bad it’s big bucks. I think they even make a conversion kit ($1500??) to go to traditional rockers.

Also I think the second captains chair was an option that most have and I feel is worth looking for.

Otherwise, great boat.

Thanks for the reply. Im looking at a 2007 but waiting For maintenance records before going any further. This one has the second captains seat. I thought the chase lounge was pretty neat but I’m guessing over time your passenger would probably prefer to look forward.

Here are the pics from the website. Not sure if these are the ones to be concerned about or not
