Is there not any 500 sundancer owners on here

Well got the cockpit all cleaned up. The carpets were nasty but brought them back to life with pine sol then baking soda borax after they dried . They are so fresh now!
On to the next project which is a southern Manhattan tonight

Looking for ideas on flag mounting. I’d like to put one on the stern of boat. Curious to what others have done on their 500 or similar boats

I always like a flag in the middle of the stern. Flag should never hit the water. Sometimes you see enormous flags.
Our flag size is 75cmx100cm and ofcourse removable. We choose this size because we didn’t want the flag hit our dingy.

We own a 340 dancer and I bumped into this thread while looking for flag ideas. Fun stuff. Congrats on the boat (although I'm late) Almightys !

Well all hauled out and tucked away for winter. Was a great to take this boat around the mitten and experience all of Michigan. Wife and kids have really enjoyed staying out on boat over weekends and looking forward to some good trips next year!

Shower sump.

The sump in the 500da is not a standard sump. I really can’t believe why sea Ray made it this way.
- not 1 sealant will attach to the PE material of the sump.
- an overflow tube in case the pump stop working (as if the water won’t go over The lid that ain’t waterclosed.
- the sump is attached by screws true holes in the sump???
- the galley sink is connected to the sump. When you cook a lot and even when you try to take all grease out of the frying pan with kitchen paper still a lot of grease accumulation in the sump.

that said, we had many times (stinking) water under the sump. In the first period when we owned our 500 we thought that there maybe is a water leak, but where..

Every month I had to clean the sump. My girlfriend felt quilty of all the grease. I am done with the sump. I took it out and went to a plastic factory and decided to let them build a new one. I let it build the same with all the openings except the overflow hole. I changed the pump and the float switch fo a pump that has an integrated floatswitch. The galley sink I am gonna change to directly overboard (the same that was on all our previous boats). So from now only clean water from shower, bath sinks and airco. Under the lid they made a groove with a rubber so it’s waterclosed

I thought it’s gonna be an expensive sump but I was really really surprised. Had to pay €575,00. In the Netherlands you pay in the shop for a small sump around €200,00

Because I know by experience this 500da sump is really bad here the result: they made it so good that it is almost a shame to put it back in the sump compartment. Judge for yourself.... happy life on 500da

Marc, what you had made looks great, but I am not sure what you gained. We never have water under the sump unless the pump or float fails. I agree with taking the sink to the exterior, but I think it may be below water level. If you decide to go that route, please let us know, I would like to do the same.

I think the previous owner made a mess of it, drew some extra holes in the bottom for new pump and made an extra hole on the side for I don’t know what, that kills the sump.

what I gaine, is a sump that doesn’t leak water .

Making the galley sink exit below the water level requires an extra pump and another hole below the water level. I don’t go that route. I do it simple and drill a hole just 10cm or so above the water level under the sink.
Maybe in other countries it’s not allowed but here in the Netherlands I see the same on a lot of boats.

Restoration of the ACR Searchlight.

When your ship gets an age of 26 something gets really worn out. Our search light was in really really bad shape. The cooling ribs on the back were oxidized and paint felt of all around the search light.

normally I buy a new one but I was in shock when I saw the new price. That money I like to spent on something else. But the search light is on top of the front of the ship and not a nice view when it’s rotten all over.

After dismounting the search light I knew this job gonna take some time. I removed all the paint, primed it twice with a 2 components primer and airpainted it with 2 layers of 2 components paint
Finally after almost 2 weeks (1-2 hours a day) it’s ready and I am so happy...

Nice job Marc! What did you use to fill the mounting holes where they were corroded?

Oh here is also another thing i worked on. Grills v belts Detroit

This time 2 layers of heat resistant primer and 2 layers heat resistant paint.

I made a half aluminium ‘circle’ on top and used jb weld to ‘glue’ it together. Because of putting it above the bad mounting holes it can hold enough pressure to mount it again. I was afraid to weld it and make it worse. Overall a simple solution.
