As I’m looking to purchase a used sundancer I notice there are not many 340’s for sale. I see a lot of 410’s for sale though. Looking around early 2000’s year. Why are there more 410’s for sale....not as popular?

its cyclic - when we were looking for our 410 all I saw were 340,360,380's. The diesels go quicker than gassers but the 400/410 is an incredible boat regardless of power, we love ours.

The 340 vs 410 are very different boats. Have you been on both? Usually bigger is preferred but it depends on where you boat and how you use it

So we’re gonna be boating at lake of ozarks. We’ve looked at the 340 all way up. Like the two baths in the 410’s. Thinking the 340 may be to small to be on (gonna be staying on the boat for 3-4 nights at a time). Any advice?

The full shower in our 410 was a game changer. It makes the boat live more like a small apartment and less like a camping tent :)

dont get me wrong, I loved our 290, but the beam, shower, hard pocket doors, and real bed make for a completely different experience.

I don’t know the ozarks very well but I’m sure you’d be fine with either gas or diesel power. Gas will likely save you 15-20k in purchase price. I do love our CATs but I’ve been on gas powered 400/410s and they run fine.

go as big as you can, survey the whole boat including the engines, and you’ll be happy

My 380 came from the Ozarks, there is usually one or 2 for sale at LOTO

I went to look at a 340, and they had the 380 in the next slip, for the extra 25k, Money well spent imo. Separate shower, separate stateroom, larger frig/freezer, 19” more beam.... check out a 380 or even 360 if there are any available.

I love the 340’s, but bigger is usually better

I too was targeting at 340 - 380. Ender up with a 410 and couldnt be happier. 380 and 410 very similar and both give you a full sized shower.

If there are a lot of 410's available go look and take a ride on one!!

I think the 340's tend to be that "perfect size" for folks moving up from the open bow or smaller cruiser who perceive anything closer to 40' to be too darn big. It's that perfect compromise. Perhaps a shortage of 340's is a symptom of this wild 2020 we've had. A lot of new boaters that did not want to push into the bigger boats...?

After reading all the comments i definitely think we will go for the 38-41 sized boat. That extra space is worth the investment. Our budget will put us in the 2000-2005 year. Thanks again for all you’re comments!

Keep in mind the year differences of each model and how it changes the overall size. For instance, the 2000-2003 410DA is close in size to the 2004+ 420DA (I think the 410 is even slightly wider)

The 380's also changed size significantly sometime during those years. You can grab the spec sheets from the model archives on searay.com

And while we're at it, if you're looking at the 2000-2003 410 you may want to consider the 97-99 400. If you can get past the stigma of being stuck in the 90's the hulls did not change from the 400 to the 410. Minor (to most) differences in the swim platform and access to the forward head, if I recall correctly.

we looked at both and also noticed the salon couch was different. I didn't think either was better/worse it was just the shape

I believe the 400's have better galley storage as well, we have basically zero space above the sink because the coffee maker and microwave take up 2 of the 3 cabinets

So I found a 2001 410 express cruiser. About 750hrs on 8.1’s. Very clean and always on fresh water. Probably have to pay around $120,000. How much will a boat like this depreciate in a few years? If we really like this style of boat we would like to upgrade to a newer one down the road.

You need to compare the layout differences between an express cruiser and Sundancer before you lock in to one, or the other imo. I def like somethings better on the EC, but overall, i like the DA better

Is really the only big differences 2 baths in sundancer and the forward stateroom and one bath in express cruiser?

THe 40+ sundancers have 2 bathrooms also.

The big difference i see is the EC has a small sleeping area before the master stateroom on the starboard side, and the SunDancer has a rear stateroom, more accommodating imo
