Hi guys just re powered my 06 280 dancer and now something in my drive is making noise. What is the max hp my alpha one gen two can handle and what gear ratio should they be? I put 350 mag mpi alpha motors in thay are 300 hp each and I don’t want to kill a new set of drives when I get them

Generally 300hp is the top end of what an alpha can handle.

The gear ratio is different on the 4.3s and 5.7s and changing props will only partially fix the problem. You'll need to change the drives and props. The Alpha can handle the 300hp and will live "if" you don't abuse them. Take it easy and no "hole shots".

5.7 or 350ci GM based Mercruisers will typically have the 1.5 or 1.47 ratio depending on when the drives were made

Beside shift dogs and gears there's not much that would make noises maybe a bearing going bad. But the universal joints is another thing they tend to make a lot of noise.
