OFFICIAL 390/40 Motor Yacht Thread

As previously mentioned looking for advice on our "new" 2003 390 MY. During the survey, it was mentioned that there was water to be found in the mid bilge, forward of the grey water tank, and aft of the black water tank under the platform between the two engines. There is an access port on the "box" if I may refer to it that way, that is located between both alternator belts as one proceeds aft to the bilge pumps and grey water tank, you must stand upon this "box" to move aft between the two engines. I was able to vacuum out over 20 gallons of "clean" water with some sediment, but no strong smell from this "box" or the water. The vessel is presently inside, heated storage with dry clean floors. Prior to removing the water from the "box" in the bilge, was hoping to find water leaking from the interior to the exterior, under the hull. Nothing. Anyone know the purpose of the "box", and where the water may have originated from? Photo is of the access port, second photo is standing upon the "box" looking aft.

Much has been documented around this issue on the 420/44DB thread. Most likely you have dripping/leaking water fixtures, ie, shower mixing valves, distribution manifold, galley/head faucets, HWH, etc. Pressurize your FW system, listen for the onboard pump to kick on ever so briefly, and look for drips/leaks. This water eventually finds its way into these hollow stringers like you have pictured.

put a small screwdriver in the slot and it should allow you to move it to off

Good day everyone. We are very recent owners of a 2003 390MY as of Nov. 1, 2020. Have LOTS to learn from everyone willing to offer some advice. Our past experience with boating has been only a 19 ft. R.I.B., used for diving the wrecks on the bottoms of all the Great Lakes. I delightfully can say I took the RIB to the Abacos on four separate adventures from Lake Worth Inlet.
The purchase of the 390 took place a couple of weeks prior to winter layup in heated storage. We performed our due diligence, prior to final purchase, and feel comfortable with our new toy. Fortunately, we have access to our vessel during the winter months for minor repairs and familiarization. Today, while I was changing out the Bennett trim tab switch to the new led auto retract switch and relay/sensor, I was unable to understand how to turn off the circuit breaker switches on the DC Breaker Panel in the forward bilge bulkhead (photo attached), prior to re-attaching the port side battery bank. Would someone please explain how these breakers are switched to the "off" position. thanks, and look forward to possibly meeting you all at your favourite anchorages.

In my next post, I have a question about water retention.
Welcome aboard. The individual switches are turned off by inserting a small screwdriver in the slot on the side of each switch. The three-bank of large solenoid switches on the bottom will turn off all the power on the respective side except for a few items like bilge pumps and blowers that have to be turned off individually.

much appreciated

In order to remove the original aft stateroom TV you have to remove the box it is connected to. I know it is not obvious because it just looks like a panel front panel. The flat screen TV throughout the boat were put on top of the original design made for deep CRT TV so the box extended back behind the face you now see. Look for all the screws holding the box in place including removing the catch for the door above the opening because I think one of the screws is hidden under door catch. After the box is pulled out you can access the 4 screws holding the TV to the box. When I replaced the TV, I stayed with a small 24 inch set which fit inside the opening and did not put the original TV box back in. I built a special mounting box out of wood which connected inside the top of the opening. With the 24 inch TV it allowed space below the TV which you can use for storage. I believe I had to do some touch up black paint in the box and change the electrical receptacle clean up the appearance. If you go big on TV you just cover the entire opening.

Question: Is the hard top, above the helm, strong enough to support walking upon for maintenance, polishing? If so, what is best way to get on top, any concern in strength of windows and seals?

Also, in case anyone is interested just finished installing the Bennett AutoTrim tab EIC5000 feature on our '03 390. The kit comes standard with a 20 ft. cable to run from the relay to the helm switch. I found the 20 ft. length was too tight, had no slack whatsoever, with placing the relay module beside the water pump behind the aft head. Ended up ordering a longer 30' cable. (25 feet of cable would suffice but not available at present).
thanks

We have walked on the top of ours, just walked up the windshield frame to get up there.

Hello, this is my first post. I hope to upgrade from a 30’ Cutwater to a SR 390/40 MY as soon as I find one, preferably in California so I don’t need to ship it by land. I single hand the 30’ quite often. Does anyone here have experience single hand the MY? What procedure do you use to dock and undock? Thank you.

I don’t have a MY however I do have a 52 Sedan Bridge and if the winds are calm I have no problem docking single handed, just need to go real slow.

If you have a slip that is several feet wider than your beam on each side and it’s windy...I wouldn’t recommend single handed docking.

No issues with my 390MY, in calm wind. Just go slow. BTW, have u read the overproping issues as it relates to the Cummins 480? If not, take a look at the forums on the Seaboard Marine Website
SBMR.com. The 390MY is a great boat and very stable

Fellas just sold my 2004 390MY gasser, market is pretty good. Took less than 3 weeks.
Upgrading to a 06 44DB I have a deposit on. Can't wait for warm weather.

Thanks rlynch3 and Rgdonson54. I figured wind could be a challenge. I had forgotten about the Dropped Valve issue with the 480-CE so thanks for pointing that out. Printed out the article from the SBMAR website. Now I just need a boat to go with it haha.

hi everyone very new to forum, just sold my 2002 310 dancer and got a 2011 390 with joystick. Quick two questions. I need to find a part for the sunroof in the hard top. It would be the black screw thing that goes through the roof to hold the sunshade to the sun roof. Next is the drop down TV, the boat is in heated storage and we went to put the tv up and it just clicks. (I have seen a few things about low battery could do this) . Just seeing if anyone can help woth these two items.

The white Garlick table behind the helm is missing the gas cylinder that dampens the up/down. Garelick is no help. All the Searay parts manual says is that it is a 19"-29" gas cylinder. Before I try AutoZone, anyone have an idea where to find one?

As I do not have one, it’s missing, any chance you have a number

I'm sorry, but I don't. Mine was a seat base/pedestal. They have many different cylinders with multiple styles of attachment points. They have quite a bit of info on their website for you to look through, or you can try calling them. As mentioned they were very helpful.
