Hobbies?

Non boating hobbies/pastime have taken a hit with the pandemic. This time of year through spring I normally would have been preparing for and going to sporting clays registered shoots, but most are being postponed or canceled. I still have weekly trap and five stand leagues to keep me busy.

Having the boat stored inside is both a blessing and a curse. This winter I need to strip the paint from the pods and re-apply, as well as strip and refinish about 80 feet of 1”x4” teak toe rail. There are also some spots on the interior woodwork needing a finish refresh as well. Did I mention my least favorite thing to do is anything that involves a paint brush? On the plus side I need to make teak deck grates for the shower and head areas. I’ll also be doing some upgrades to the trim tabs (auto control and incorporating into nmea2k). On the project management side we have new helm cushions being done as well as an upgrade to the depth transducer to go with the fancy electronics installed this past spring.
Ditto on the paint brush phobia! I don't know what it is but I just hate painting!! Funny though when ever I do get motivated enough to paint something and finish I always tell my self "now that wasn't so bad was it?" Its all the prep and clean up that I dread but it just needs to be done. I've got about ten painting projects stacked up so it time to get them done while we are boatless.
Carpe Diem

I do stage lighting for a large church. Here are a few examples of my work. Taken with an iPhone so not exactly the best quality.

Steve - I have DMX RGBW lighting in the house; have you installed any DMX in boats?

Tom,

No, I have not added any DMX in a boat. Is your DMX system at home wireless?

I have thought about it though. I have also thought about adding a DMX system for LED moving lights, and LED panels and more for the Venetian Night parade. Maybe even a haze machine also.... LOL

Not wireless but I understand the system can be expanded to add WIFI or Bluetooth; I'm just learning about it and it's capabilities. My home lighting are wall switch mounted touch panels that are wired to DMX decoders for each zone; it's a pretty neat system. I can change lighting intensity in over 16 million colors including warm white. I have asked the installers to look at changing the home's can lighting to RGBW DMX. I was wondering about installing something similar for the boat's interior lighting because it's that awesome.

What was going to be my winter project is now in the body shop after some jackass decided to do a PIT maneuver on me, throwing me into another innocent bystander's car. No one was hurt, and no airbags went off. It took out three corners on mine (both rear quarters). So, now I just wait to hear from the body shop if it's totaled.

The magic number these days is 75% I think it used to be 60% of the value for the ins. co. to consider it a total loss. If you want it fixed right, demand O.E. parts and nothing less, also, absolutely no body filler! Don't let them tell you it can't be done. If they do, your at the wrong body shop.

Sorry about your Mustang. I bleed blue and have the blue oval tattooed on my ass.

Also, make sure the ins. co. cuts you and additional check for the depreciated value as it will show up on a Carfax report that the car was wrecked and that will diminish it's value significantly and you are entitled to this redemption.

I’ve never had any hobbies. Too OCD, ADD and all those other letters, to focus on anything. Unless you count recreational competitive sports of all kinds, which I cycle through every few years or so.

Plus 1 on the depreciated value check. It should be for 100% of the difference in value of pre & post wreck.

Well, the insurance company "pony"d-up and are springing for the repair, to the tune of over $9,900 USD! As per @techmitch and @mwph, I'll hit them up for the depreciated value check. What a year! I just want to go sit in my boat.

Funny you should ask... I will be retiring on December 31st, 2020 after 37 years in Distribution Sales. To be honest I am looking forward to it. I hope we can get back to whatever the new normal is going to look like in 2021. I have my two cars I want to take to car shows, I wanted to get back into my stereo equipment, I want to find time to go to the shooting range. I have plenty of projects to do around the house. I want to upgrade the electronics on my 320.

I'm 36 years in Industrial sales but on the manufacturing side selling cutting tools. Got one more year left...

And Nice Ride!

If the creek don't rise, I'm pulling the plug Spring of '21. First, the shop. Then, the boat. 'Gotta have your priorities. Between-times will be filled with learning to play the banjo (really!). 'Working on this one right now:

We don't really have winter 'round these parts. Mostly we have "It's a little bit chilly". Even so, I use the winter months to get caught up on boat and home projects. That and dust off the Vette for the occasional road trip.
