We just got our boat and I used the microwave for the first time and it seemed to be low power. We have a Slyvania and
I know it's not household wattage but it seems to cook slowly.
I'm not sure what wattage it is. I cooked popcorn and it took forever so much that I ended up burning it since I don't have a gauge on times.
If anyone has this particular microwave and has used it let me know your feedback. I know cells in microwaves go out sooner or later
I'm just not sure how to check it.
Thanks

Re: 290 DA v berth

I am full of questions tonight for all you 290 owners.
We have slept on the boat 3 times now and I put a foam mattress down for extra comfort and it works great. My question is does anyone feel like they are sleeping on a slope or an angle (head up ,feet way down)? My husband does not notice it ,I feel like I am sliding down off the bed even though technically I am not it feels that way? Strange or not?
When we come home I feel like I am still on the boat with back of forth movement. It gets worse when I stand still especially to take out my contacts.
Have a great night

try heating a cup of water. even a low wattage micro should boil a room temperature water in under 2 mins.....be sure to use a micro safe cup or paper so all the energy/heat isnt transferred to the cup.

My 260 has I believe the same microwave. Mine's a Sylvania 550W model. I have the PDF instructions if needed. Performance on mine is fine. I'm able to heat popcorn in the alloted time w/out problems.

Are you sure you didn't select low power by mistake?

If needed to replace, it's very easy to remove and you can find something comparable in almost any store. Just measure twice to be sure the replacement fits.

mine takes a little longer than normal too. I've learned to figure out the times.

the sense that you're still on the boat will go away. I think it took my GF about 4 weekends out.

Mike is correct.

If you have ever heard the expression “got your sea legs” this is part of what they are talking about.

In time it goes away. The amount of time it takes to go away can vary.

If it bothers you to the degree that you feel you need to do something you may want to try Damamine.

It’s possible you are not level. It also possible the motion is playing tricks on your mind.

Bring a level to the boat. If it’s not a long level lay something long and flat over the area where you sleep. Rest the level on this. Confirm that its level. This will help you convince your mind that the area is level.

If it’s not level it could be from ballast like fresh water, waste, fuel, items stored on the boat that is causing a list.

Re: 290 DA v berth

I recently asked about this same problem we have with our 2006 280DA. Did not find any answers on the slope issue but have used towels and foam noodles to remedy the issue of sliding toward the rear of the boat while sleeping. Next season may even try memory foam to add extra cushion and cut the bottom on an angle to offset the slope. Have not put a four foot level on the v-berth but no doubt in my mind it is not level after stating on it for four seasons now.

PS On another note just lost the Sylvania microwave and looking for a replacement, not easy to find or match up at Lowes. Dealership has them backordered around $200.

Mine is a 900watt. They are not marine grade microwaves. You can buy any microwave with the same dimensions and it will work. GE Monogram make a nice stainless steel one that is same size and much higher wattage but is still well within the microwave circuits capacity.

We had the same microwave. No power at all. Good for heating up soup, but forget popcorn. We tried a few times and it wasn't happening. Give up!

Regarding the slope: Yes the bed is sloped slightly. You will get used to it.

Regarding the sea legs: It will go away over time. It depends on how much time you spend on the boat. After a few months, it went away for me.

On my 290 the micro was inadequate also. I had the exact same experience with popcorn. Not only what you said, but the bag would not turn because when it opened it got stuck due to the small compartment. That caused it to burn.

Ditto but we still use the micro for popcorn.

We just do not pop it all the way. Yes, this means we have some waste.

The recommended cook times on most microwave foods are based on a 700W oven. For your 550W oven, you need to add about 14 seconds for every minute of "recommended' cook time.

Yeahbut (redneck word….look it up) the issue is the microwave is so small that even with the turntable turning the popcorn bag does not turn. As the bag opens its just too big to turn around inside the microwave. So you get burnt spots inside the popcorn bag if you cook it all the way.

To fix this we do not fully cook the popcorn bag. We get a ¾ full bag of good popcorn and a bunch of un-popped seeds.

I've had the same problem, I just divided the time in half and then manually rotated it.

Same here....I did not realize that this was problem until I read this thread. I just thought my 10 year old was still learning how to cook popcorn.

Old thread, I know, but apparently my coffee maker gets hot enough to warp the button for the door on the microwave.

Anybody have an old Goldstar I could buy the plastic door button off of?

or, anybody found a good replacement microwave? The opening is 9-3/8 x 18-1/2.

Thanks!

Found the perfect replacement microwave for the existing spot on the 290’s. Height is perfect and there’s about a 2” gap left on the width. I’m going to fill that void with a filler panel and a couple of USB charging ports.....or cutting board holder like the wife wants..:D
