Bow Thruster Not Working

Reviving an old thread here...
My thruster just quit working. I have power at the motor, but when I hit the joystick, I just get a clicking sound. The shaft does not spin. The clicking sounds slightly different depending on the direction I press the joystick. Ideas? Thanks!

Don't know what your diver/maintenance schedule is, but I would check to make sure the thruster prop is not fouled.

I have had same issue. Even though you have 12V there, you are probably lacking amperage. Take all the connections apart, 1 by 1, and clean them up really good. Bow Thrusters require a ton of amperage. Just one dirty or loose connection will certainly cause your problem.

I had same issue. you could tap on the relay on top of the motor and have someone operate the thruster it would work. even had it to stick in the on position (another story). ended up replacing the
relay. mine is a vetus and i believe it was about $450. done that cleaned all conections and no problem since.

did you load test the batteries?

Will do, thanks. I am thinking amperage problem as well. The batteries are almost 6 years old. I have a battery tester on the way from Amazon. What kind of amperage does the thruster require?

Not sure how much amperage, but it is a ton. Normally when I am pulling in to a marina when I will use the thruster a lot, I fire up the genny so as not to put such a drain on the batteries. Just started doing that 2 seasons ago on the advice of someone on this forum and it has really helped. Thrusters take an enormous amount of power to run. Part of my spring make ready is to clean all the battery connections on the thruster so I know I have good solid contact.
