The official "Stray Current II" thread. '07 260DA

0 additional progress since last post, still only 3 sections but after 2 days of rain my cabin is still dry besides the tiny drip on the deck hatch.

Once I’m shrink wrapped up it’s getting re-bedded or replaced.

I did get a nice little Christmas present though

Not sure if this is helpful but I found drips coming though my hatch when I washed down the boat. The drips were coming through the stanchion holes or mounts in the glass of all places. Where your locking levers are. 4th pic on post 119.

It’s tracing down the vinyl from the hinge side. Hopefully it’s leaking between the hatch and the caulk, not the caulk and the core. Can’t yank it until it’s wrapped

Rail is done! Man that sucked...

There’s like 5 tubes of 4200UV in there now, that should never come apart or leak again

I had one job that I wanted to complete on the boat New years weekend. I wanted to give it a good wash before shrink wrap.

Naturally my water main would fail New year's day! No water for boat washing!

Such is life!

She's all wrapped now, man that's a sad feeling. I'm taking this weekend off of working on the boat. Between running emergency service calls Christmas and the day after and the water main fiasco on New year's I'm doing nothing this weekend.:D

I'll be picking up on my next batch of picture heavy service and upgrades coming soon

Who was I kidding about a weekend off? I just can't stay away!

the good news is the hatch came out without any issues and I was shocked to see that it only had a cheap foam gasket! There's definitely been some prolonged water leakage that I can see in the interior once I got the trim off but it doesn't look like it did any damage to the core, all the screws came out dry!

no I'm debating on whether I should re-bed this one or just replace the whole works as there's a little bend in the frame. looks like someone may have closed it on something at some point and that's where it started to leak when the frame deflected.

Got my hatch rebedded and the screen/shade reinstalled just in time for the shrink-wrap to collapse in the forthcoming snow.

Hopefully that ends my water issues.

So far I've resealed:

Deck hatch
Rub rail
All 4 portholes
Stairwell drain fitting
Transducer tube

I think I'm going to rebed the anchor chute, deck pipe, floodlight and bow cleat in the spring.

I can't believe Sea Ray used a cheap FOAM GASKET for this damn hatch, with no sealant on the screws!

Fortunately it seems the screws go into solid glass at the edge of the molded hole and there was no core intrusion. Upsized from #8 to #10 fasteners and got a good solid bite and squeeze all the way around. Life Seal

It’s been a slow winter this year, not much motivation but fortunately a much shorter project list.

not sure if I touched on it last year but my used rs35 vhf lost nmea2000 network connectivity due to an internal issue. This rendered my gps position relay on distress and ais functions useless so I decide to replace it.

the rs40 was $619 but the lowrance link-9 is IDENTICAL and retails for 120 less so I went that route. Got that installed and also added a simnet/micro-c cable.

from what I’ve read this will now enable me to use the marpa target tracking capability of the 4g radar by connecting the RI10 to the nmea2000 network as well as the ethernet. We shall see

I also ordered my thermostat, complete set of antifreeze hoses, circulator pump, belt, BOTH cool fuel filters, IAC muffler, and outdrive paint.

I was going to order a new raw pump assembly but at $800+ I’m going to disassemble the current one and see if I can just throw a new impeller in.

I’m considering doing away with the pneumatic drain system as the pump assembly is more expensive and the distribution manifold is a known leakage point. I really don’t need it for the way I use the boat.

if you’ve been following my thread you saw my blown hose, I’ve already replaced all the raw hoses not I’m doing everything on the antifreeze side, while it’s apart the heat exchanger will go off and get flushed and tested.

I think I’m going to hold off on the hot water cockpit heater and cabin door track repair. Depending on what happens this boat might MIGHT have Florida numbers on the bow by next winter

You say it's been a slow winter, but you're getting a lot done! The new VHF install looks great. I ordered the Taylor gasket for my deck hatches so I'll be following with the project you completed pretty soon in between my other boat projects. Seems like a lot, but I enjoy the hell out of each one of the projects. I'm looking forward to the end results.
Are there any advantages to registering in Florida or are you just saying you're moving there? I'm tempted to register ours out of our house in Port Richey if there's a good reason.

I’m thinking about moving, I’ve been in talks with a few different generator companies and also looking into getting a Florida electrical contractor license.

Between our politics, winter, our politics, winter, and our politics I can’t stand new Jersczystan anymore. No that’s not a typo...

I’d think about skipping the foam and go with life seal or maybe 4200uv

I grew up in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts so I feel for you... I thought Michigan and now Virginia would be better, but far from it....
For re-bedding the frame I'll use sealant, but for the window itself I bought the gasket.

Still waiting on 1 more hose and some bulk heater hose before I get into my next headache. I'm going to switch over to the nice closed worm hose clamps as well.

Found a few of these kicking around in the bargain bin at a vendor I deal with. they seem to be a decent quality cob LED and I installed them in my two forward reading lamps.

I like them so I'm going to see if I can order the LED replacements for the rest of the cabin bulbs and the two fixtures in the engine bay. Also trying to find the two LEDs for the little lamps in the flip down television.

Everything in the boat will be led after that

If I may ask how much did you pay and how much for repairs seems like you could have bought new for all the work you've done

That’s the game we play when we buy used boats. And then after 5 or so years you start having to do all these jobs anyway with new boats

I paid just a touch under 40 and I’m probably another 45 in by now for all the repairs, upgrades and trailer. Not even close to what new similarly equipped would cost.

I’m probably overkilling things but I’d rather replace things early than have them fail and take me out of the game for a few weeks mid season when you can’t get parts.

This model boat with its’ 8’6” beam, arch, genset, ac, and freshwater cooling is a rare bird. I wanted all the features it had and still be trailerable. Maybe I could have found one in better shape but they’re few and far between with all of the above. Choose your battles

Finally wrapped up all my LED lights. Much happier with the warm white than the cool whites that I put in last winter. I hate the sharp bluish white LED light.

IMG_20210306_174346.jpg

194 led bulbs. 2400k on the left and 2700k on the right.

The left is a 194-WWCOB1W from super bright LEDs. I don't necessarily care for it

The right is a JQ921COK27 from jq america and I went with this. You can order directly

IMG_20210306_174351.jpg

The 1156 bulbs in the aft cabin, head, and engine bay were replaced by 1156-WW18-T from super bright LEDs

The G4 bi pin in the dome light is G4-WW12-DAC from super bright leds

IMG_20210306_194546.jpg

Red bulb is a 194-RCOB1W from super bright LEDs
IMG_20210306_194552.jpg

IMG_20210306_195353.jpg

Arch lights were replaced by 3710-WWHP6-V2 from super bright LEDs

IMG_20210306_195106.jpg

I have 2 additional 3022-WWHP4-V2 warm white festoon style bulbs in back order from super bright LEDs. These will be for the reading lamps on the KEC flip down television.

Once that’s done there won’t be any incandescent lamps left

Got started tearing my cooling system down today. got all the antifreeze hoses, exchanger and the circulator pump off.

I ran a 4:1 mixture of barnacle buster and fresh water through my heat exchanger with that bilge pump for about an hour each n both sides.

Unfortunately the picture of the snot that came out of the exchanger on the raw side did not get saved to my library but it was absolutely disgusting how much came out.

Wow, this thread has had over 10,000 views

I guess I won’t have any secret if it’s ever time to resell :D

Typical of my luck. I got the pump open and found out that I have wear plates and they're grooved to shit. it certainly would have been nice if the parts guy mentioned those to me when I ordered all the parts, but in true form I find out on Sunday when everything is closed.

I was hoping to get the raw pump done first before I put the exchanger and hoses back on, but that's going to have to wait and be much more difficult later. This engine has the pneumatic drain valve pump, its quite the squeeze to get it in there.

I figured since I had a delay I might as well put some new phantom black over the acid washed heat exchanger
