Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

Thanks Ryan. I thought about pedestal mount too. I think I even saw a pic of yours at one point. We just had the new SeaDek installed, and don’t really want to put the hole in the swim platform.

I remember seeing a pic of some type of table, that the grill could sit on. It looked nice and mounted to that rail, and was supported against the transom. I think it was wood, and someone had purchasing info, but I can’t find it now.

something like this probably? I want to build one of them for my new boat too

Yes! I’m not sure if that’s the same one, but it looked just like that. Someone was selling them, and I should’ve bought it when I saw it.

Sharky. Check out this one. I saw it after i already put together a system for mine. I have the kumma stow and go grill with the adjustable rod holder mount. I would have gone with this tho. Check out site and video

This week I got around to washing up the boat and winterizing some of the systems. Since I haven't use the boat much at all this year even before I took out a motor it was pretty filthy and required a good scrub. I don't normally hose down the entire helm but it really needed it.

One area I found that collected water is under the side table/ice bin area. Is this water supposed to go out somewhere?

A shop vac and a good wipe cleaned up the area pretty quickly.

there’s a drain hole that points toward the transom door. Maybe it’s plugged

Ducky,
There is a small weep hole at the corner just under the step. I took a drill bit and just cleaned it out. Someone might have caulked it.

Thanks.

I'll have to take a piece of wire and give it a poke the next time I'm at the boat.

My boat is blocked up right now and wrapped for the winter, but to save in in and out charges at the marina I picked up a tri-axle trailer. Not planning to run up and down the road with it much, just pull it in and out of the ramp.

Question to those who have trailers, anyone pull in and out of the ramp with a 1/2 ton truck? I have a 2020 F-150 4x4. The combo is way over my tow rating but just want to use it to pull out of the water and launch.

If you have a frame mounted hitch, you should be fine just to get it up the ramp. Use 4 wheel low range and of course you'll be going slow. Stay off the road, though because you could be fined and your insurance is void.

Thanks. I have a factory frame mounted hitch and the tow package. Also have the 4wd low range and 10 speed automatic. Never pulled something with this much weight out of a ramp before. To take it from where it is now to my marina in the spring I will rent a dually one ton for the day and grab an over wide permit.

Anyone ever have soft spot on engine cover? Mine had a soft deck on one side, took it off and cut out underside to find the wood soaked and delaminated from top side, decided to check out the other side, turns out whole wood was soaked and looking like a good winter project. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and did you use the end cap balsa wood replacement or go a different route. Thanks

Hello Everybody, I searched and really didn't find an answer so I am going to post it as a new question. I'm sure it has been discussed before so if someone can drop a link to previous discussion that would be great too.

I am considering a 98-2001 290 Sundancer. I am concerned about the mid cabin access. I like that it is private and behind a door but am wondering just how hard it is for a couple 50+ year olds to crawl back in there. Can anybody please shed some light on it for me? There are not any for sale near me and rather than drive hundreds of miles to find out. Hoping to purchase sometime this spring.

Thanks so much!

I have the 1998 290 dancer. Me and the admiral are both in our early 50's aswell as all our friends. Nobody has had any complaints of access to the back room. I do mainly use it for storage of stuff when nobody is sleeping in it.

Cosman,
I have a 98 290 as well.

Access to that mid cabin is good. It's a great area for storage, changing clothes, etc. etc. It sleeps one full size adult great, 2 adults is pretty "snug". It is difficult for the person who is against the aft wall to get out to pee at night. 2 kids, no prob.

It stays nice and cool back there because the AC vents into that room.

Just watch your head. I lost count of how many times I've hit my head on the dam metal door frame. I think I lost count because of brain damage. :(;):p

Thanks for all the quick replies. How about the berth in the bow? I am 6'2". Admiral is 5'9" Will our feet hang off the end? We had a '96 290 and enjoyed it very much. We are looking to stay that same boat size but get twin engines and A/C. Also looking forward to forward facing arch so I can get shade while Admiral gets sun in the aft of the cockpit.
