340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Has anyone hard wired in a Inverter? I would like to be able to run a few AC items while on plane. Mainly the AC unit ha.

I know I can run the genny, but I would like the option for AC power while already running 2 big blocks. 2000W with 4K peak inverter should handle the 12K BTU system fine. would be nice to flick a switch while the big blocks are running and charging the battery anyway to provide AC power. THis would work for short periods of TV use at night while on battery before gennys on all night, and also can run AC unit while on plane with out the genny.

Thanks all for the replies, Starboard forward port light seal was the culprit. Fixed, no more leaky...

OK upgrade gurus....2002 340DA, new cockpit speaks installed (SKAR audio, keepin the $ local) but needs some bass and amplification. Can anyone help me with some tips and tricks on running a 2-4 ga batt cable from EB to the stereo "area"? I'm looking at either mounting amps under the starboard couch/setee or the starboard storage cabinet near the bulkhead/rear berth. Also, any tips on running cable from the amp in aforemention location up to the sub that I will be installing under the helm seating, facing to port by the fire extinguisher.

Nobody with any input? I'm reading online to pull the pocket next to the captains chair and pull the captains chair off the pedestal to create room to work...anyone agree/disagree?

You can run the battery cable along starboard while the storage pocket is removed as well. On my 340 I mounted my amps in the starboard storage closet. It made routing wires very easy. Just force them up toward the helm, you'll find the ends...

Thanks for the info! Where did you end up grounding to?

If you had to pull your motors over the winter, in my case, the 8.1 Merc's. What else would you do while you have easy access to the bilge? As we know, the engine room in a 340DA is, as we say in Boston, "Wicked Tight". I'm thinking about things like replacing those two bilge pumps and switches that take a contortionist to reach otherwise, looking at things like the thru hulls in more detail, maybe that darn strainer for the A/C that is down really low and hard to get at, (anyone ever move that up any higher?)

Anyway, this should be the only time I ever do this before my next boat, so I wanted to take care of any obvious things that would be tough to do otherwise.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Shaft seals. And Cutlass bearings -- while not in the engine room, easy to do with everything disconnected.

Pretty sure the a/c strainer needs to be below the pump

I think you're right, I feel like that came up in another discussion a while back. One of these days, I'm going to be down there head first to clean that %#$&@?! thing and hours later my wife is just going to see a couple legs sticking out of the engine compartment with me passed out below. After she pours another drink, I'm sure she'll reach out to someone on the dock.

I removed the exhaust hoses coming off the engine to the muffler, all kinds of room when removed, and it only took me 15 minutes to remove them, had to do it to replace the rear bilge pump, which is under the generator, wasn't fun, I also cleaned the strainers while I was at it, they were surprisingly clean

What did you do to aid the removal of the exhaust hoses? Warm up the engine? Let lubricant? Seem really stiff and stuck on there pretty good.

I would replace the hose from the the pump to the raw water pump.. give it some slack! ha sucks foing impellers.

I would add Perko Freshwater flush kits on both engines. I did this while mine were out. Ran the freshwater lines to the inside of the storage locker on the transom. Allows for easy flushing of the engines after each outing. I would also have the oil in both transmissions tested to make sure you don't have any issues there. Replacing a tranny with the engines in is a major POA.

We just bought ours, we can't wait to take possession of her. 2005, 8.1 Horizons. We may be asking a few questions. Here is one. Is there a part that makes the rear couch outside at the stern a bed or sun pad? Ours does not have it. Can we buy one? Also, our salon sofa is off the track. It needs to be replaced, any suggestions on that. Thanks in advance!

Not certain for yours but our 2002 uses the Rear cockpit table with a section that makes the fore and aft facing benches. They (2) are stored under the rear bench on our model.
