48 DA Owners Club

If you bought that boat I would recommend you use it here for the summer to enjoy the Bahamas islands and the Keys then come winter ship it to Mexico. You can live comfortable for some weekends and a week or so on that baby. Call it “working remotely” for the summer. I am heading to the Bahamas for a 10 day trip in early July. You would have a blast on that baby!!!
Ok, quick question. If I bought the 58 (or any other boat) and left it in Fl for the Summer, would I be subject to the Fl Sales Tax? I know it's capped at a certain amount but i would hate to have to pay the Sales Tax in Fl and then again when I bring it into Ca. The Ca tax law states the vessel has to be out of the State for a year.....It used to only be 90 days which lead to the 90day Ensenada Yacht Club. Of course they crushed that loophole.

Jeffrey, I would think your experience would be similar to mine.
I closed on my boat in Alabama.
I paid Alabama state and local sales taxes on the transaction.

When I brought it to NY, the processor filed a sales tax receipt and copies of the cancelled checks and I was given a credit for the tax paid in Alabama. I only paid the difference, up to the NY State cap in total.

Good to know...I have a call in to the attorney that did the paperwork on my current 48. It's in an LLC and it was when I bought it so I avoided sales tax all together. I pay my fair share already as I'm sure most on here can relate to.

You know that is out of my wheelhouse. If the LLC is offshore (which a lot are here) I would think you would be protected. I would ask the broker on that one as he is for sure an expert as he is a big name here in South Florida. So many yachts here don't even register in FL. I never did when I brought my Princess from Cali and never had an issue. Documented only.

Worked with Seaview to make a good set up for adding thermal to the boat. The one I purchased before was blocking the sat dish.
Wow, how tall does that make the boat? That wouldn't work for me then I would have to wait for bridges to open.... But interesting can't wait to see pics.

The 3rd and last engine room camera installed. It was cold. Needed heat lol. Also installed my old Fusion nrx300 remote on port arch. Easy nmea drop into engine room. Found out it can also display speed, heading, water temp, depth etc. Next on the list is to replace cabin door track hardware.

So my pics are straight in my photo library but they turn sideways when I add them to this sight. Detailed help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

literally just bring them into your photo editor and save them. That should do it. Worst case, just crop them a touch and save them.

Grant. Anything I need to know in advance on cabin door removal? Do I need a second guy? Does door need to come out completely?

Yes second guy is a must because it is awkard getting out and back in. upper track comes out easy, lower is a fight to get clearance and not scratch fiberglass. Door comes right out once tracks out. I found both my upper the shoulder bolts had backed out rubbing on the track. I used blue loctite when i installed the new ones so that won't happen again. Cleaned my tracks well while everyhting was out and used a little dry lube on both for reinstall. Upon re-install getting the upper slide in place was easy, the lower was a bit of a bitch and required the extra hands on the outside of the door to hold pressure while I guided it in place. The new "glides" are longer than the old ones and I was going to cut them to match but decided to give them a change and they worked. Once it is in then putting the tracks back in is again a bit of a bitch because of space. I taped towels in place to protect the fiberglass as the tolerances are tight. Once you find the right angles of attack they pop right in place.

Ok, thanks.

Maybe because of the flange width.
At some point that is on my agenda to research and replace> I know even with the one they recommended there is some "fitting required" and I want to keep that to a minimum. Norcold is still working fine but wifey has fridge envy of my buddies Viti as it has way more space and does not ice up. So... Happy wife = happy boating life and I am going to have to grant her the wish to replace it before she takes a knife to the freezer coil and tells me "there it is dead now"...LOL.
