Portland Oregon members?

hmcsw, welcome to the Columbia River. Your boating world just opened up to a whole new set of circumstances, scenery and experiences. Want to have some fun, steer that beauty upriver and spend about 2.5 days coming up to the Tri Cities. First round is on me.

If you have any questions about boating on the river please don't hesitate to ask.

We moved down from Seattle and have our boat at Port of Camas.

Yo. new sea-ray owner here, also in portland (west linn). 18.5' sport. Why did you go Camas, do you live there?

I know I'm a little late here. And this is the first time traveling this far down in the forums. Not in PDX but out in Sheridan, OR. So far out, we are 24 miles from the edge of Lincoln City. As soon as the weather allows I will be doing the reseal of both drives and launching in Newport as well as out in PDX when we feel the need to pull an oversized load into the bowels of hell. On a side note; our 300DA came with a HDS 12 Gen3. This unit is only three years old. If anybody happens run across a G4 radar, please let me know.

Late? I'm even later!! Prosser, WA here and we boat all over the place! Columbia, Snake, San Juans', Lakes in Northern Idaho, Spokane River, Lake Chelan..... We're game! Let's go! Our favorite is either Priest Lake or Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho. I haven't done much in Oregon, but I'm sure I could get a oversize load permit and tow down there if need be!

I'm working on that. There is no real permit for a private load non commercial. And I'm not going to put my pick up commercial for this fricked up state. I have talked to a bunch of heads of some crap in Salem with the DOT, and I'm more confused than when I started. And I used to pull permits for over sized loads all the time for heavy equipment.

Looking at the maps, it looks like most of the roads going through the coast range is off limits for wide loads. I have yet to check other roads around the PDX area.

I thought about just putting the banners on and rolling. If I get stopped then play dumb. But being a CDLA holder with all endorsements but HAZMAT, I better not push it.

But there is a real permit for private oversize loads in Oregon. I called last week and got registered. You can't do it online, have to call and register, then call about four days ahead of time, then they'll email you the permit.
I should be pulling my boat to Portland in a couple of weeks if all goes as planned to get a camper canvas made for it.
Oh I forgot, the permits are good for 10 days, and if I remember right they're $8.00.

Really!? I have been in touch with several people at ODOT and not a single one have any info about private non commercial oversize permits. But I'm not looking for one time permits. I'm looking for the annual permits. One told me to just haul it and not to worry about it. Yeah, that's not going to happen. I was going to contact the Oregon Trucking Association seeing as they are one of the outside companies that issue permits, and see what they can do for me. They were pretty good when I was hauling a D6 dozer behind a dump truck.

Who did you call? Must have been someone not in Salem. The ones there just can't seem to be able to anything but give wrong info.:D

I don't remember right now , but it was ODOT in Salem pretty sure.
I have the numbers at home, but I'm in sunny AZ for the rest of the week.
I can post the number when I get home.

@JHornsby3, once you figure things out, please post it here. My girl's in Pend Oreille, and I'd like to haul her down to the Boise valley by way of the Tri-Cities. I have Idaho and Washington figured out, but Oregon's still a mystery.

In the "zona"? Shame on you. You should be up here enjoying the mayhem mother nature has bestowed apon us.

I will be sure to post everything I find out. For Oregon that is. Idaho was always an easy state to get or deal with permits. And for an Oversized/ Over weight permit for a truck and trailer, it was only $8 a year. That was for the 92 Pete 379 and 58' equipment hauler I drove. Not this small load of a 30' boat. :D

I usually get the Annual Idaho pass. It's only $50 and I might go back a second time each summer. The problem is the 10 day permit. I rarely go for 10 days. Usually it's 2 weeks or more and then the cost is almost the same as an Annual permit because I need 2 to cover each end.

Wyrman, good to know about the ODOT oversize. That's cheap and who knows, maybe there is a lake there we need to visit???

Maybe just let me worry about the oregon permit and we can all meet out on the Columbia and head out to Astoria or up the John Day.

A 10 day will never be enough. It should be a 30 day at the least for a non commercial permit.

I agree, a 10 day pass is pretty dumb, but what do you do?

Just run with it. If you get stopped two or three weeks later when going back, tell the officer that you don't know why they gave you a permit for 10 days when you only needed it for two. The trip over and the trip back.:D

I just got off the phone ordering a 10 day oversize permit, the cost is $8.00.
The number is (503) 373-0000.
You will need to register an account for the permit before getting one. That number is (503) 378-6699
I asked about an annual permit for private parties, they do in fact have one, and it is also $8.00.
It is done through a private party though, so I just stuck with what I was doing.

I know they do them through a third party. One of three third parties. I called the local DMV yesterday and they confirmed that. But had no clue of who I needed to get in touch with. Sounded about right. LOL They said they are changing processes again and think this new system is going to be a failure too. LOL

ODOT for account is 503-373-0000
After you have your account number call A Work Safe Services 503-391-9363

You will need the tow vehicle VIN, GVWR, Make & Model, unit number and width of load. $8 a year or by the 10 day. They do not give info so if you have questions, you have to ask. I was told all answers to questions will be included with the maps.

If you plan to drive other than state or fed highways, you will need to call each county to file for permits in said counties. So, I live two miles off of one highway and 6 miles off another, I will need to call two counties to get permits in both to drive my road. But if I was driving through Salem headed to Detroit Lake, I would not need a permit to pull through down town as it is considered a state highway. And because I am under 11' wide, I do not need a pilot car.

Along with the permit they will send maps of go-no go roads within the state along with maps of width limits for some roads and day and time limits for roads.

When I get the maps, I will scan them and post them for reference.

I know every state, city, and county are different, in the city I pull through no permit is needed as long as I can stay in one lane.
So you never know, you may not need a permit for the counties, or cities.
I called and talked to the local police d
