Looking for a recommendation for a surveyor in the St. Louis area. Robert Peyman surveyed the boat in the summer for insurance reasons. I'm not against using him again other than it seems like everyone in that area knows one another. Meaning he knows the owners of the boat fairly well. Also seems like Fabick is the only Caterpillar game in town, and once again the service manager knows the owner of the boat. Small town and this Cat place is also the ones who do the work to the engines.

TIA.

If YOU hire the surveyor and the Cat techs, they work for YOU.

These guys have a lot more to lose if they play favorites vs reporting the news that they see on the boat that YOU hired them for.

With over 100+ deals on boats with Cats in them, the Cat techs usually don’t surgarcoat anything.

In fact, that is one of the things I really like about dealing with the Caterpillar dealer network. They are not hurting for work and they have nothing to gain by "sugar coating" survey results or by taking short cuts on service or repairs because there is probably several weeks work on road graders, backhoes, school buses and dump trucks waiting on them when they finish a boat survey.

However, having plenty go work is kind of a 2 edge sword........there is about a 6 week wait for the Caterpillar guys in our area. And, crying doesn't help.

John used to own Bloch Marine Service, and had full service shops at 3 marinas on the Mississippi in the St. Charles/ St. Louis area including mine at Yacht Club of St. Louis. He sold his service business to our marina owner a year or two ago, but still does survey work. I have never used him for a survey, but know him fairly well and have had plenty of work done on my boat by him and his shop. He's not cheap, but I have always been treated fairly and was always pleased with the work.
