My 2000 460DA was hauled out of the water three weeks ago for some maintenance. When the boat yard hauled the boat, they pressure washed the hull which completely destroyed the water line vinyl stripe on the port side. It was already in the "need to be replaced" stage. I never realized how difficult it would be to find someone to remove and replace stripes at a reasonable price. I decided to remove the stripes myself and then had to remove the glue residue with "Goof Off" and my detailer then wet sanded in preparation for new stripes which I ordered. I'm going to attempt to do it myself. Stay tuned for pictures.

So the stripes are the least of all the things that are happening. Four of the 10 Port Lights were seeping something that looked like rust. All 10 were removed. Four are being replaced with new and the other six are being reconditioned and all are in the process of being re-bedded.

The Main Saloon A/C was original and developed a coolant leak. A new A/C unit is being custom built to match the original fittings.

Dripless Shaft Bearings were shot and have been replaced. Cutlass Bearings have been replaced. Shafts were inspected for wear and straightness and props were balanced. Rudder stuffing repacked. New bottom paint with Prop Speed on the running gear. Anchor was sand blasted to remove rust and tech is treating it with something to protect it...not sure with what at this point.

Installing spreader lights on the radar arch.

Previous owner did some damage to the hydraulic swim platform and covered it up with paint which has recently begun to crack and show where the damage was. Platform was removed and is in a fiberglass shop being properly repaired. While I had the attention of the fiberglass guy I had him do some other minor fiberglass touchups around the hull and also replaced a section of the rub rail that was slightly damaged.

Last thing is having the boat completely professionally cleaned and waxed. It should be like a "New Boat" when it gets back into the water. My Tech estimated two weeks for the work when it was hauled but we had 4 different vendors at the boat. Three weeks gone and it will probably be another week before we are relaunched. At least the weather has been less than ideal and I am not missing decent boating weather.

Let the subs take their time. Folks get in a rush sometimes and push the subs which can lead to misssteps

I replace my boot stripes about every 4 - 5 years it's not that bad to do the worst part is the prep, removing the old and the glue. Put a 1/2 teaspoon of liquid soap in a spray bottle and spray the area that your getting ready to apply with new tape so you can pull back the tape if you don't like a section you just did. try to do 3 - 5 foot sections when you apply.

Good luck ! Les

Nice Gunner what yard did you choose to do your work. Well worth the wait, why rush weather while nice has not justified great boating.
