I’m about to install a Garmin auto-pilot to my 2001 - 340 AJ. For those that have auto-pilots, where is the best location to install the hydraulic pump? I have a place in mind, but wanted to see if there are better suggestions out there.
TIA

There are a number of considerations, but as close to the ram as possible and as close to the battery as possible.

Mine is a factory installed option and its in the engine room under the helm, just forward of the generator. That's quite a distance from the steering ram, but it has always worked just fine. I'd never get another boat without auto pilot. It's like having a spare captain aboard!

My 97 330EC (pretty much same as a 340AJ) has the pump in the same location JB stated. Works fine.

Same here pump is forward of the generator

Hmm mine was all the way aft under the fish box right next to the ram. I thought it was factory installed but I guess not?
