Ubiquity Bullet M2 vs PepLink Max BR1 Mini. Wan WiFi

Curious how that works...it's a single antenna. The Puma gets you 5 - 2 Cellular 2 wifi and a GPS

Yeah exactly, with that alone you still need a WiFi source antenna. So having two cellular sources might have some value when dealing with two different cell technologies, US and Bahama's. Will be curious to hear of Grants results once the season kick's in.

Ah...second antenna with the jellyfish
Correct, I would probably make that the main cellular and the Jelly Fish the secondary cellular but main for the wifi and gps.

If they keep adding antennas, we'll need a secondary arch just them. We'll look like floating porcupines!

Like this?? (Not my boat - Seabits.com boat)

A little more progress today. I used the pole mount option for the Peplink Puma 221 and mounted it on the radar arch light pole. I’m going to try this configuration for a while and see if it warrants a more permanent mount.

Previously I just had the MAX BR1 “thrown” up in my arch in the exact location the Netgear LB1121 had been, just laying the antennas sideways. The most noticeable improvement was the upload speed, having added the external antenna.

I’ll keep testing and see how I like this arrangement. I only want to drill 1 hole, 1 time.

It looks like the Puma 221 made a big difference. Looks like you will be looking for that drill motor real soon.

Possibly! My only complaint is the current setup is kinda ugly. Not that antennas are pretty, but I'd like a more finished look.

So test it for a trip or two and then decide where to drill. Or just bite the bullet and figure out where to fit it in and start drilling. The nice weather is right around the corner. Running wire in the GA heat isn't much fun.

I've got my gear permanently mounted on my tech shelf now and have it all bench tested. Everything works great. I went with the Ultramobile unlimited plan, and so far the signal looks pretty strong around here. I'm going to go drop it all in the boat this afternoon and really give it a workout to see how it does. I got the Jellyfish antenna installed on the radar arch a few weeks ago, I replaced an old TV antenna that was broken and ugly, so I didn't have to drill a new hole for it. Score!

I'll get some updated pics of everything and report back with my speed tests. Fingers crossed this works out!

I think its going to work just fine. The biggest issue is proximity to a good cell tower!!

This technology is changing so fast...I don’t think I would be drilling holes in my boat trying to keep up. In the old days you could throw up a satellite dish and be good for 10 years.
I do the bare minimum and non evasive but still stay up to date... and if the kid still can’t get on the internet ...so be it :)

My plans were dashed right out of the gate. I got to the boat and grabbed the antenna leads from the Jellyfish and started hooking them up to the Peplink and found that the Wifi antenna fit, but the Cellular one didn't. The JF-3 I bought comes with and FME female connector, while the Peplink has an SMA female connector. I found an SMA-FME adaptor on Amazon for $8 that will be delivered today, so hopefully I'll be able to get back to the boat over the weekend and get it hooked up and tested.

It wasn't a total loss since I got the power feed wires installed, so it should be mostly a drop in and go effort. I hope.

I think that is the one draw back of the JellyFish, the one with the three male SMA's is hard to find.

Played around with this more this afternoon. The InControl management is very cool.

Nice, compact device overall...

GPS is a neat adder. Shows the location of the device.
Baj, I've now got Transit much like yours (I got the CAT-18). Have you given any thought to how to mount the device? I want to put mine in a somewhat narrow compartment near my helm to keep the antenna run as short as possible. Ideally, it will be up-and-down attached to a bulkhead. The "ears" that came with mine won't do much good. Ideally, I would like L-shaped brackets using the screw holes going down each side of the router with the other leg of the L attached to the bulkhead (actually looking much like the Max configuration). So, I'm in search of such brackets but open to other ideas if you happen to already have a plan.
