I saw an item on sale at West Marine called Head Lube. It's supposed to treat the rubber, gaskets, plungers and flappers in a marine head. Has anyone heard of this? Does it work... or better question, do I need it? We are taking delivery next week of our new 290 SDX, and it has a vacuflush head. I've never owned one before, as previous boats had a portapotty. I plan to use NoFlex to treat the tanks, and wonder if I need head lube occasionally too? Is there a better brand with similar results?

It works. I use to use it when I had a manual flush toilet. It lubricated the cylinder which made it easier to pump/flush. It doesnt last long though. Im not sure its really necessary for electric flush

I've had two boats with vacuflush head and never used any kind of lube... not necessary.

Thanks guys! Sounds like I should skip it. Not quite a boat buck, but saved money nonetheless.

Zaal makes one (they make the noflex digestor) so I hope she will pipe up here and answer for you. Boaters Mate I believe. That is what I use to keep the bowl clean and lubes the seal.

We boat on the weekends, when we leave on Sunday I put a bit in the bowl with some water to prevent the ball assembly from drying. Do I need it? I don't know but its a cheap preventative.
