+1 for Steve. He surveyed my 520DB and is very thorough. He is a busy man though so try to get a date ASAP.

Just did my on land survey today 2005 sea ray 42 sedan bridge everything checked out. Sea trail next week. How many people have hired a separate surveyor for the motors ?

My surveyor had a mechanic he works with so I had him survey the motors. Mine are gassers so it may different for diesels.

I would highly suggest a Cummins Diesel surveyor, could easily save you way more than the cost of the survey.
Agreed, get a survey on the engines by a Cummins tech.

Imo the diesel survey is just as important if not more important. Mako marine is a great cummins certified surveyor on long Island.

I was planning on having the motors gone over to didn’t know I’d have to find a different person so thanks I hadn’t thought of it I’m pretty confident they’ll be fine only 200 hours on them

WTF called the broker yesterday and apparently the owner changed their minds and don't want to sell the boat anymore after having a deposit for almost 4 weeks just wasted my time and money on flying down there rental car and contacting captains and surveyers anyone else ever had this happen

I feel for you, this market is painful. I love looking at boats but its starting to wear me down.

Unfortunately that has happened to me twice now, although we have not yet progressed to the deposit phase.

I just finished my visual inspection of another one, surveys tomorrow and thankfully the owner has already taken off all their personal belongings so I think this one may stick if we accept the boat after surveys.

Sorry to hear that. Selling sounds good through the winter and then summer is around the corner and they can’t find another boat to buy.

Check the contract. When I sold both of mine there was language that if I backed out I was responsible to reimburse the buyer for expenses incurred. Likewise, they were responsible for haulout fees and other fees if they walked with out cause.

Best of luck in "round 3"

Yes, my contract has me covered for my expenses. My last deals though my travel expenses happened before any contract and neither got to the actual deposit phase so I had zero recourse.

That said I think I would have a hard time claiming my flights and hotel on this one even if it did fall through. Surveys and haul outs would be 100% understandable, just not sure how they would handle travel.

I have never actually used any in this area personally as my previous boats were not local either.

Rob Scanlon is probably one of the best around that I know of.
