I went through FI Inlet Sunday and stayed close to the Green Buoys rounding Democrat Point out to the ocean and had plenty of water at high tide.

Great info, thanks Rob!

If it’s that bad why don’t they just shift six and 6A and five ... as to not cross into the shallow section

Great question! Why wouldn't they.
They said they pulled a 42' something but didnt say what or exactly where or what his draft was. All would be helpful.

It looks like they don’t have enough markers in the channel at Fire Island inlet if you went from Marker 3 to 5 in somewhat of a straight line you will always be crossing the shallows , # 5 should be way out to the west . Basically making this inlet not navigable if you didn’t know it. I just scratch my head when I hear and see things like this. Jones inlet has been no picnic this year either Buoy number 1,3 and 5 are not even marked on the Navi chart ,buoy number three and four are now perpendicular to the other inlet buoys which makes absolutely no sense it’s like threading a slalom and then having to straighten back out I’m not sure if it was dragged in a storm

Just spoke with our local Sea Tow Captain.
He is the one who dropped these white "mooring balls" on the Fire Island Inlet on Navionics.
He said he updated them last week and at each one of them he had no less than 10ft of water.
Anyone have any opinions?

A second call to Sea Tow revealed that someone changed the "safe water" markers he had placed.
This is what he was expecting me to see, which makes way more sense.

A buddy went out last week and said this was his route (yellow line)
He said it got skinny around 6 and 6a, Sea tow said to stay wide of those 2(further west).

Out the fire island inlet at close to high tide.
Never had less than 7.5 ft of water and most was 14+

Thanks Rob!
Have a great holiday weekend

There is a great Facebook page called Jones inlet Danger and death. Excellent up to date info is the path changes.

Seatow GSB posted to again not use the marked channel but stay west of the channel.
