Going all chain

We paint from the chain to anchor 5 feet red and the last 5 feet red. Every 25 feet we paint 2 feet of white. We are in salt water and anchor probably 100 time a year. Paint lasts 2 years in areas that are used. Never had to repaint the last 5 feet of red. Use ACE Hardware enamel oil based paint. First clean chain with fresh water, let dry of water then spay and let dry in open. Once you do it once redoing is quick process every couple of years.

So I've added the 200' of chain and a Rocna anchor. Now I'm working on a bridle setup. Figured I would save my self a few boat bucks and make up my own. I've made up 2 10' lines with a thimble in one end and eye splice on the other. I plan to use a single as a snubber most of the time but when I want to overnight in current or wind I would use the full bridle. I'm working with a Mantus chain hook and I'm trying to come up with the best way to attach both thimbles to the Mantus chain hook. One works fine but 2 is too big for any shackles I've seen. Any recommendations? Have been looking at soft shackles as well.

The snubber I use is similar to the one you made, but on the chain end, I have the 2 leads coming from the deck cleats spliced together so there is only one eye splice at the end that shackles to the Mantus chain hook. The Mantus pre made ones are done that way, it's a y splice from the two bow cleat leads, then an eye splice at the end of the Y.

Yes, I've seen that setup however its above my skill level as a DIY job...lol

Have you guys tried these gems? I used them for half the year last year, no issues. I don't see how these would fall out....they are quite secure so long as you get the proper size. And a whole lot easier than dealing with spray paint.

Yes I have bunch of those that fell out after I put them in. Oddly enough it fits nice and snug in the 5/16 chain I took off the boat, but the new chain which is also 5/16 is slightly bigger therefore its a very lose fits. Ultimately I ended up painting it.

I'm going all chain too. I just bought 142' from MarineNow. It appears to be the best deal going at $2.89 per foot and free shipping for 5/16" G4 HT. I'm going to shackle it to the 17' of OE chain and cut the rope off. The rope is pretty hammered and my windlass doesn't like it.
I like what you did with the bridle. You did the weaves yourself? Very nice clean job. I'm a chain noob. I assume the bridle is to keep the pressure off the pulpit? I'll have to make one of those up too.

The bridle is to keep pressure off the windlass. It also provide some shock relief, as the chain does not give. Makes for more quiet sleep time also!

How will your shackle move through your windlass?

What windlass are you running this through? How has this chain worked out?

Looks like this should work for a Progress 1...
I have a Progress 1. I just installed 145' of all chain 5/16" HT also bought from marinenow. Plenty of room in the locker for more. Runs through perfectly. I can drop and retrieve it from the helm with no issues.

I put in an email to them, but how was shipping? They claim free shipping. Can they ship to your door or do i need to find a loading dock/commercial address?

It was free shipping. I was shocked. I actually bought it from them via Amazon. It was the same through their site, but it was Prime lol Right to my door although the UPS guy was unhappy by the looks of it. Dumped it out the back of his truck in front of my porch...

Free shipping seems crazy, but OK!

I'd like 250', but the offer 200 and 300...I think I'll wait for a reply to see if the can do 250.

200'is 200# and 300' is over 300#...

The 142' is $2.88/foot. 150' is $3.73/foot. $150 for 8'=ouch... I should buy another 142' now in case the price goes up, but I decided to wait and see if I need it.
