Man are boat prices going up

When I went to the boat last week had from four different people notes stuck to the transom door if I wanted to sell to call.

In the west especially on our lake there is no inventory of good clean big boats to buy.

The only way I would sell right now is if I wanted to take a couple years off from boating.

Does $40K sound ridiculous for a 96 330DA with new (200hrs) Merc 350s (carb), V drives, super clean, everything works, clear cockpit glass, triple axle trailer?

I wouldn’t say ridiculous. Depending on what needs updating, could be a fair price.

7 different “is this for sale” while working on the boat in the yard this year, and more on Facebook. First 250k takes it :)

Cars are headed in the same direction. We bought our2019 Hellcat at the height of COVID last April. WE had it at our dealer for it's second oil change and the service manager noticed it only had 1568 miles on it and mentioned something to the sales manager. He called me up and offered me 10K over what we paid or basically 2K below the original sticker. Due to the chip shortage they are now back to "adjusted market value" window stickers on the inventory they can get. We will be holding onto our boat and the Hellcat, just saying.

The Cockpit has been reupholstered at some point and well cared for, both eyebrows and aft canopy extension are in great shape along with ensiling glass. The cabin has not been touched so we will have that to contend with soon. Hopefully I will get to enjoy the extra sq footage this summer without any major repairs or remodels.
I'm quite sure I could have gotten this same boat a year ago for $30K, but we can live with the price we paid.

I have seen people asking 50 and they are selling quick.

The market in Florida is insane, too. I went looking to buy a late model bowrider after not having been in the market for several years. I was shocked. I was expecting to pay a slight premium on 3 year old Sea Ray and found a great one--until the broker said he wasn't going to take anything less than the original list price from 3 years ago! The phrase "pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered" came to mind.

The combination of COVID and cheap gas prices created a bubble that reminds me of the real estate market just before the 2008 crash. I figure I'll just wait a year or so before buying what I want. I may sell what I've got, join one of the local "boat clubs" that have sprouted up for this year and buy next year. Manufacturers are expanding production, gas prices aren't going to stay as cheap as they were just a few months ago and once people go back to their old pre-COVID hobbies, the market will correct itself. Bidding wars on depreciable items whose supply is really not limited is a sure sign of a bubble.

I've got this Gambler 206SS that I just don't use enough anymore. If the market is this over the top I'm going to list it. Let's see what happens.

That boat won’t last a week with the way people are throwing around money these days!

Things are nuts. Called on a boat yesturday, a few hours after it was listed. Wanted to see it tomorrow. Ready to do a full ask price deal. Guy won't show it. Has another "potential buyer." I'm done with this chit. Ready to spend my money on hookers.

What are you looking for? Maybe some forum members know of one in their area??

Apparenlty a unicorn. :)

1995-2003 330, 340, 370 sundancer. Reasonably prices (hard in this market). Not wet. Well maintained. Need generator (which cuts out 1/2 the boats). Lake Michigan or Miss River.

What chaps me on my experience is I spoke with the guy. Expressed interest. Tried to make an appointment. Agreed on Sun/Mon to give him time to clean and send a few additional pictures. And he apparently slipped someone "in front" of me.

I wish I would have known earlier on that you would consider a 370. We sold an immaculate 1999 370 that’s bone dry within an hour of listing. Sea trial Tuesday.
