I am making some sun shade window covers for my upper salon windows and don't really want to drill holes in the fiberglass to mount snaps. I saw these Snads used on a Sail Rite video and am wondering if anyone here has used them to secure window coverings or anything else for that matter. Thanks

OH Crap, I meant to add this link Duh...Amazon.com: SNAD Adhesive Attached Snap Components, 1 Piece: Computers & Accessories
It is a stick on snap stud. I want to stick them directly to the salon windows to avoid screwing in snaps around the windows.

Our new boat has them installed on the glass where the cockpit canvas meets the salon glass. They used the plastic domed variant sold here:

So far, I’m very impressed with them. I will be adding Phifertex window screens for heat blocking in the future and plan to use them for attaching them as well.

I've used two SNADs on my boat so far. One failed after half a season (likely due to poor surface prep on my part) and the other is holding strong. They are a nice tool but don't skimp on prep! :)

They put them on the gelcoat to hold the front windshield sunshade in place on my 400DA. They started to fail and come off after a month or so. Maybe due to the Fl heat and sun or maybe because they didn't prep the area correctly. We drilled and used theses Loxx pull up fasteners https://www.sailrite.com/Loxx-Pull-It-Up-Fastener-Cloth-to-Surface-Screw-Stud-Set . I liked them so well I have them for the windshield cover on the 52.

Ok, Rusty what the hell is a Snad ?

Two nads if you are dyslexic.

I had a bunch of these for my cockpit seat cushions. I had several fail. On most of them that failed the glue pad stayed on the boat; it was the plastic dome part that came off.

I think they are sensitive to lateral pulling. The ones for my seats were mounted a little low, and there was a constant lateral force on the snap. I think that contributed a lot to my particular failures.

I would absolutely try them again for another application. They use 3M adhesive, and as mentioned there are 2 important steps when using this adhesive:
  1. Proper surface prep: ensure it's very very clean with no contamination. IIRC, you need to use alcohol vs. other types of cleaners.
  2. Let the adhesive set up before using the snads. The bond strength takes some time to set up. It's something like 25% after an hour, 50% at 4 hours, 75% after 24 hours, and 100% in 2 or 3 days (rough example, not accurate!). The point is, let the adhesive set up or you're much more likely to have the adhesive fail.

The canvas shop used them on my doorway cover. They are holding well but are very protected from the elements

I ordered a couple of ten packs and some 3M 94 adhesion promoter to try, I’ll post a review as I see how well they work. Thanks for your responses guys.

Curious if these will adhere to diamond shaped non skid?

Eh, maybe? It's worth a try. You would need to be sure to prep/clean the area really well, and don't touch them for a few days. The 3M VHB adhesive bond increases with the time it sits. Disturb it and the adhesive bond is much weaker.

I've had the snads pull off off flat gelcoat, but I don't know if the surface was properly prepped.
