Looking to replace a defective horn on my 2006 290 sundancer. Would like a better sounding horn than the OEM. Anybody have suggestions??

Thanking you in advance!

Do you want something to go in place of the original? Also looking for something louder or just a different type of sound?

You could always upgrade to an air horn. I was considering this -- I'm just not sure of the best place for it.

I would like it to go in the same place AND have it sound better!!!

Gotcha. I have seen replacements that go right in behind the grille. But if you're looking for a different sound ... this is one of those things that's hard to tell from looking at them. This one got good reviews:

I thought about mounting an air horn to the underside of the radar arch but I don't want to get blasted out of the helm if it's too loud!

I prefer the air horn sound compared to the MEEP MEEP of a regular style horn.

Agree! And thanks for the link I will check it out. Do you know if that will fit a 2006 290 DA

Frankly, not a lot of options for those "duck quack" horns under the grill at the bow. They are all small electric horns, so are necessarily limited in how "good" they can sound. It might a bit of trial and error to find one that sounds "better" to you.

If you wanted a fairly simple air horn, something like this link might be an option. It uses a very small on-demand air compressor. It's about the size of one of the little soda cans - smaller than a regular 12oz can. Doesn't take a lot of power and you might be able to reuse the existing switch / wiring. I had this type compressor on my last 2 boats powering a single trumpet
and while it's no Kahlenburg horn, it's pretty decent.

Michael,
That seachoice one wont fit. The hole spacing is different.
If that doesn't fit, look for the AFI hidden horn. It was a drop-in replacement for my 2006 AJ. I think I reused my old cover though.

Let me add that I did have to futz with the connectors. Sea Ray used Deutsche connectors that were added to the horn leads. The new horn didn't have this and I wasn't going to buy the tooling to make the special connections. So I simply cut off the connector on the boat side and used some crimp-on snap connectors. So was the AFI horn a drop in to fit the hole? Yes. Matching connections out of the box? No.

If you want sound, you need a real horn. This is what I did. I posted another thread about the wiring. They are Ongaro stainless, white powder coated. 125db rating and are very loud.

That’s way beyond my pay scale!! I’m just looked for a way to let the gas dock know I’m about ready to smash into the wall.

I bought an air horn (handheld) at Bass Pro. It has a bike tire valve on the bottom, so you can keep refilling it forever. I keep that with me.

Every once in a while at home when the wife sleeps too late, I sneak up with the kids and let them blast off the air horn which is a good laugh for us :D

Looks great, I have the same horns and want to install it soon. Mine would sit flat on my radar arch, but it looks like you added some spacers at the back mount, did that give you an angle on the horns to allow water to drain out?

Exactly what I was going to post.

I have those and was blown away by the volume and deep, air horn like sound.

Mine appear to be original and still scream after all these years.

I like the white finish!

Exactly. They sit slightly down aimed at rest with the spacers. I am in fresh water so no concerns about salt water, but wanted them to drain. I have had these installed for about 9 years and they are just as loud as when I first installed them. The white powercoated versions don't seem to be available any more. I guess I got lucky. I think they look great with the other white hardware on the arch (GPS, Radar and Glomex antenna)
