No but looking forward to it. Luckily...no parts needed!!

what, you don’t just browse the parts catalog for fun?

Hell no! Too busy flying all the currently "unemployed" people to visit Mickey. Not that I'm complaining!!! Beats the hell out of me being unemployed, but I really would like a cup of coffee before that O'Dark Thirty departure or Red Eye.

Hey guys, went in this morning without too much excitement but I do have a new issue on the port engine. I get a drop of water while running, about 1 drop per second, from the impeller housing. I guess the seal on the shaft must be toast.

luckily I can get to that motor easy. Do I buy a new Sherwood housing and replace the whole thing or can it be rebuilt?

I replaced the cover plate last year and it resolved my drip, but I did pick up a spare pump just in case...

I rebuilt one of mine many years ago but not sure that I would do it again. Depends on age and condition, which is unknown til you tear it down. I'd swap out with new and keep for spare if rebuild able.

Thanks guys, where did you order the pump? CAT is about ~900 but a quick google shows somewhere in 600-700 range

I never had much luck rebuilding the OEM Cat(Sherwood) pumps. Each rebuild to stop leaks seems to last less time.

At about 750 hours I replaced both complete pumps with what I learned was a new design. After that, I replaced impellers every 300 hours with the Sherwood impeller kit ($61) and never had another leak. Those pumps had about 750 hours on them when we sold the boat.

Honestly, part of my decision process to replace the complete pump assy. factored in the fact that it requires a double jointed spider monkey to do anything to the seawater pumps on the stbd side of a 450DA.

If you order new pumps, only buy from a big distributor that cycles his inventory frequently. You don't want an old pump that has been on some mom and pop's shelf long enough for the impeller, seals and gaskets to have dried out.

I ordered my pumps from my marina parts department to get their dealer's discount and their vendor for Sherwood pumps and parts is Depco in Clearwater, Fla.:

Thanks Frank, I'll reach out to them. Appreciate everyone's help!

I'm seeing the CAT parts map to Sherwood P1732C, does that ring any bells for the folks who have replaced it?

they look to be the correct and new replacement for my original’s. I’ve ordered the pump, gasket, and orings for the elbows. I also have new seawater hoses and clamps that I didn’t get to yet so I guess I’m doing it all at once :)

Thanks! How big of a PIA to install?

That’s it. I replaced both of mine year one (only the port was leaking at the seal), and I think I got them for about $550 each. Replacing the pump does require undoing the hoses to/ from the pump, and you may want to have a spare as it kinda thin. Then swapping the hose barbs over to the new ones.

I kept my old ones as spares and contemplated rebuilding but the parts are almost the same cost as a new pump, so I’m just going to budget new pumps every 5-10 years.

I’m in the middle of replacing both pumps right now. My surveyor didn’t call these out, but I could tell from the rust restorer paint these had been leaking and probably rebuilt at some point. I bit the bullet and ordered new. Port side is easy access. The starboard pump is a little tight and a pain to get at on my boat.

yeah that makes sense and why I went for new myself. I did see the gear has to be swapped so hopefully that’s not too much of a pain. I need to look up the retaining but torque as well. I’m just going to cut off the old hoses I have all new ready to go
