So frustrated!

People I know in Canada are 4 months after first shot to get the second.... I never did any research on it but it feels like that might be to long... normal is 4 weeks...you guys are 16 weeks.... so how long can you wait and get the same effectiveness....this surely couldn’t be studied....given we are a year and a bit into this mess
Exactly...pin-headed political decision.

How many times do we all need to hear it? "its not about your health stupid, Its about compliance" Period!
Today here in Nor Cal things are actually getting closer and closer to normal. The Wife and I went for lunch at our local Chili's and sat at the bar with the most modest of restrictions. I asked the Bar Keep what the capacity was supposed to be and he basically shrugged his shoulders and implied that no one is checking anymore. They have one section closed off putting the capicity at about 50% almost every one I have come in contact with has been vaccinated, even the bar keep, a twenty something guy said he had both his shots. Masks still required for entering and standing in the que for seating is all.
Carpe Diem
LOL... one of your first times out and you go to Chili’s ? :).... I tell you it is really hard to pick a restaurant... I do not have a go to place or even a backup here... ordering food has come down to an appetizer we share

It was like that here 1 year ago. Really difficult to get your boat launched. We had people coming from 1-2 hours away to drop their boat in CT because NY was even more restricted.

One year later theyre now a lot less restrictive. By next year you'll need 3 additional booster shots and it will get so confusing no one will even care. Not that the virus changed, just people's mentality to it.

Tonight our family went out to a restaurant. Sat outside on a large patio. Tables prob 12 ft apart. Mid way through dinner manager came to split up our table since we had 9 people where max is 8 (we had a 2 year old which doesn't count). We were all family. Ridiculous rules.

Honest question,

Honest question, what if you just went to your boat to work on it? Could you be arrested? (Assuming it’s not behind a fence or something)
So last year they closed the state park where my marina is located. Actually barricaded the road in. I parked and hiked a path up and around near where they stored my boat. At the end of the path was another baricade. I figured WTF and jumped over it. I got about 50 feet and the Gestapo started yelling at me. It was pure stupidity.

There's a couple of problems. The marina is closed to the public except by appointment. This is by government order. They are still allowed to launch and repair boats. If an owner sneaks in, you can put the marina at risk of being shut down.

The other issue is right now we are in a lockdown. We are only supposed to leave our houses for specific reasons (groceries, exercise, doctor). You can be asked by the police why you are out, where you are going, etc. You could be charged $750 to $100K, although most charges would be at the light end of that, obviously.

I don't like it at all. It's frustrating. It's hard on business, families, young people...everyone. The problem is people that refuse to be careful (big gatherings, parties) and they screw it up for everyone. We also need to close our borders to flights arriving from high-risk areas. The number of flights that arrive from overseas with COVID on-board is unbelievable.

We do seem to be in a legitimate tough spot with cases and hospitalizations. I wish there was more focus on treating people at home before they decline to the point they need to be admitted to ICU. The approach is absurd.

"Hey, you have COVID...could be bad, so go home and do nothing. If you feel like you won't survive, go to the hospital."

Ridiculous...
You guys obviously haven't figured it out -- lockdowns don't work. Good luck.

PS -- working on a boat is excersise.

Supposedly because you can still carry the virus and infect others. If everyone has had (or had the opportunity to have) the vaccine, there would be no one left to infect...?
Think about that. If that's true, then the vaccines don't work.

Sure they do, during elections. If we can just have more variants, we can be locked down in perpetuity.

Fwiw....re 4 month delay til second shot in Canada.
The head of the advisory council that made this recommendation was questioned and said the basis for the decision was solely due to the lack of vaccines...they want everyone to have a first shot. Nothing to do with, as the government say, “following the science”.

Also, just received an email from a local marina advising customers to stay off the property til May 21 due to Covid lockdown procedures re third wave. They will try to launch boats:

“On Friday, April 16th, 2021 Premier Ford extended the Stay at Home Order and placed new restrictions on marina activities among others. These restrictions, similar to what we managed in May 2020, are in place (currently) until May 20, 2021 and are summarized below:

  • Our buildings, services and amenities are closed to all customers and visitors;
  • The marina may not be used for recreational boating purposes and, therefore, you are not permitted to visit the marina to go boating at this time; and
  • All Service, Sales and/or required attendance at the marina for ANY reason MUST be by appointment only.

Our Crew are permitted to continue to prep for the season, repair, service and place boats or other watercraft in the water and secure them to a dock until the marina is allowed to be open to the public.

Please help us ensure the marina is not closed due to the inability to adhere to all Provincial and Public Health Guidelines as this would mean that we would not be able to have our customers boats in the water ready for use and enjoyment once these restrictions are lifted.

Until you are permitted to return, our Crew will continue to take great care and watch over your boats and watercraft. During this time you can connect with our Crew by phone or schedule an appointment.”

Not a good start to a season that is short to begin with!!

Our provincial government is forced into reacting to the result of the actions of the federal government. In a weekend update to the 3 rd wave, our pm is bragging about the numbers of vaccines that will arrive by the end of June, not this week or the next.

...lockdowns don't work.

It's debatable. And by that, I truly mean there are are data and examples that allow arguments to support both.

Don't get me wrong...I hate that we are in one, I believe there are better solutions, and lockdowns may not be beneficial holistically, but there is certainly evidence that support their effectiveness for simply reducing active cases and reducing ICU load.

Please show that evidence.

We'll wait.

Here’s an idea. Vaccines are almost 100% effective at preventing severe illness. As soon as they are available for everyone that wants one, open everything up. Hospitals will only be full of those that chose to not get vaccinated. Let them take their chances on whether a bed or vent will be available. They made their choice.
Canada does not seem to recognize any vaccine as being effective as the vaccinated are not give any more privilege than the non vaccinated. US seems to allow the vaccinated more freedom. Panama seems to have removed travel exemptions for full vaccinated according to what I have read on internet. Very windy there, you need stern and bow thrusters to dock.

Please show that evidence.

So here it is. I'm not stupid. You're not stupid. We can both show evidence because, you know...the Internet. I don't argue anything with anyone that I can tell is so convinced they are correct- whether due to passion, irrationality, ignorance, or any kind of bias, that they can't recognize there are two sides to a complicated situation. This behaviour causes a lot of conflict and the stance is taken at the detriment of possibly advancing their own understanding and viewpoint, as well as that of others. The most counterproductive are those that enter into arguments with a bias based on their "wants". As frustration rises, so does the wanted reality, and there is a lot of frustration right now.

I have researched and debated both sides of the lockdown argument (I tend to be right-leaning center amongst a group of friends that are all either far-right, or too left for me!). There is no winning it definitively; I've spent hours. I've also read most of the positions here on CSR. Some good, substantiated opinions that I have used.

My two daughters are interesting...still young, both in high school. One is innately more Liberal/left while the other is more Conservative/right. I have taught them if they really want to argue their positions, the best way is to research and gather evidence on the opposing view. A bit of Sun Tzu strategy! What's interesting is, being young and fairly open-minded with no ingrained political tendency, they sometimes flip-flop their position while researching.

We are at the same marina! What dock are you on? I am on Scenic.

Blah, Blah, Blah. Do you have evidence that lockdowns "work?" And for what purpose? And do those studies take into account all of the negative effects of lockdowns? Lockdowns are draconian and as applicable to boating, and outdoor activity, are foolish, stupid, ignorant, idiotic, and dumb.

Ottawa boaters
I have friend in Ottawa, his daughter and her husband both got covid. He felt sick for 2 weeks. She is with child so no idea if that made her feel sick. Both did not need medical care. They returned to normal. Both under 35. Point is old sick people die, young healthy people live and inherit our boats so life will continue for our boats. At my age one year of not boating is now 10% of my available life to go boating.

You clearly are not an opportunistic politician. If you want to redistribute the wealth of others; Global Warming, the China Virus and Socialism are your best friends.

BTW I feel for the folks in Canada. That said.....didn't all the dem candidates hold their health system up as the shining example for the US to follow?

Hi gents, just had an update from the marina!
According to the broker we can work on our boats, as long as it dreamed essential before launch!
The marina remains closed, no washrooms etc.
