IMG_20210419_091705126.jpg Hello all, I have a 1987 Sea Ray Cuddy Cruiser that I would like to make some cosmetic repairs to, the hull color is oyster I believe, it has a color break at the gunwale that is burgundy or dark red, does anybody know what Sea Ray called this color?

Wheels, I had an 89 268 red looked like yours, I painted it with Awlgrip and looks like new still (sold boat to friend). Stuff lasts forever, took about 3 days of taping, prep, paint multi coats, etc. you’ll never have wax again, look into it.

You can email sea ray. Give them your hull number. They will get back to you in a day or so. Srboats@searay.com
Ok, so sea ray was not able to answer my question as my boat is over 10 years old, they suggested I ask sea ray club. Thanks for the info, it was worth a try

Thank you, for the most part gelcoat is in great shape, really just wanted to make a few small repairs, mostly in the red accent area, likely will just have a local shop do the work, I just enjoy the satisfaction of doing things myself.

Interesting... my boat is over 23 years old and they were helpful to me. Weird.

Find a composites shop in your area. Take a chip or the boat with you. If they are worth their salt, they can mix the color of gel coat for you. The shop I go to (also worked for them) can mix any funky color I have needed. They even gave me the MEKP and some cabocil to mix the putty. About a pint of color was less than $20.

I will do some research but I'm not aware of a shop in my area that will match my color if they're not actually doing the repairs.

A good place to check is the local water park. If they have slides, they will have the number to a guy that will touch up their slides. Or try the local air field for the local A&P. They will most likely know the local glass guys.

spectrum in Florida best place 100% match you are correct oyster is your color. Sells for 110 a quart plus the extras you will need MEK/hardner and styrene to help kick it be carful on hot days goes off relatively quick if spraying or they do sell a paste in your color the # is1800)754-5516 on the transom of boat you will need that number for veifacation on color mine is 86 300 that is the color of mine

Bought a quart of oyster, a little darker than hull as expected, will try to lighten it up a little with some white, not sure about the dark red, might get brave and try to mix a few colors to match it.

Contact Composite One in Vancouver Washington. Ask them about mixing your color. They can mix up as little as a pint. And they are not that expensive. Over the last 22 years I have bought from them. From RV repairs to high power rocketry to marine work, they have served me very well. They might be able to get your color from a good photo. Or you might be able to get a chip to send them from a hidden spot.

I bought some white gelcoat to mix with the oyster from spectrum to lighten it, also bought some brown & red color to mess around with, should be fun

I have a tinting kit. It's a pigment goop for changing the color of gel coat. Need it?

I had a rocket project I was working on. A minimum diameter very high altitude one that was carbon fiber and e glass. I needed some cabocil to make a putty for the fins. So I ordered the minimum order of 2lbs of the stuff. 2lbs of the stuff came in a huge box with all the other stuff. That other stuff would have fit in a very small mailer envelope. I still have a little of it left. I have given away about 90% of what I ordered. I kind of miss the days of wetting out carbon fiber and rolling rocket tubes. The last ones I did were 10" diameter for a scaled two stage that flew to over 10k above ground level.

Interesting hobby, I think I'm all set, mixed some white and oyster and I think it's pretty close, thanks

I found that gluing cardboard tubes and ply wood together and throwing it in the air at mach 1 or faster was a lot more expensive than owning two boats. At anywhere from $200 to $1000 for A rocket motor and about 2 seconds or less to reach apogee, I needed something with a lower cost. So I had kids and picked up two boats. You know, so a few hundred dollars will last about an hour.o_O

Keep in mind I spray gelkote so it comes out looking little dark and will lighten up after cured. Yes white pigment will work a very little amount goes long way FYI. But you may have the other white I wanna say 2 or 3 whites that year. For the red give spectrum a call they will match it perfect so much easy than mixing yourself. Then if gun runs dry/out of paint you need to recreate that color again if you follow me LOL. Get your numbers off back of boat that tells them whole story. good luck

Sherfab in CA will mix gel coat for you. They are almost 1/3 the cost of Spectrum and faster delivery time. The charged me $116 per gallon. You can send them a sample to match if they don’t know your color. 9099232200
