What's your favorite Treager tip?

Now his business will quadruple and he will never know it came from a group of boaters.
Gotta love grass roots marketing.
Lol, most people just buy a bag or two of whatever from their local store.
Most pellet manufacturers use a filler in their pellets depending on which part of the US you're in, they either use alder or oak as a filler.
Traeger pellets use some kind if scented oil to flavor their pellets.
Cookingpellets use 100% of the wood they say they are, with no fillers.
I've been using them for quite a few years and can't see myself using anything else.

My Treager is tits up right now. I screwed up the last time I used it, well actually I didn't know you're not supposed to try to restart it if it shuts down. Well, I did that and ended up with a 4-alarm fire inside the Treager. Smoke and flames coming out of everywhere.

So now I'm going to disassemble it and first, free up the auger. If it works then I'm lucky. If that doesn't fix it then I'll have to do more surgery on it to see what isn't working.

Same thing happened to me. My fault because I was lax in keeping the firebox clean and and the rest clear of grease. Had a big fire and bubbled a lot of the paint off. Cleaned it up and it still worked fine.

I took mine apart yesterday, cleared the auger tube, vac'd the firebox and auger tube then put it back together.

I fired it up, put it on smoke and it just sat there pumping out a few pellets but not enough to get a real fire going. Temp gauge showed 91*. After about 10 minutes I set the thermostat to 220 and all it did was push a pile of pellets into the firebox and smother the little fire that had started.

I'm going to take it apart again, clean out the auger tube and firebox and let it sit on smoke for at least 20 minutes to see what happens.

GFC, sounds like something is wrong with the control system. I wonder if you burned up the temperature probe. I have a Recteq but I imagine it works the same. I could see a bad fire taking mine out. After that, you'd be looking at circuit boards and such.

The temp probe doesn't have anything to do with the smoke setting.
Smoke setting is timed, that's what the P settings are about.
Mike, do you put a small handful of pellets in the hopper after you vacuum it out?
If not, try that. That's what I do every time.

I'm going to tear into it tomorrow again. Take it apart, clean out the auger tube then I'll try your trick of hand feeding the fire box. Sort of like priming a pump.

Does the fan sound to be running normally and pushing air. When you have it apart, maybe fire it up and check the airflow to the firebox.

That's a good idea baj, thanks. I can't work on it right now. We're having both front and back porches rebuilt and painted. All of the porch furniture is sitting on the lawn, except for the Treager and a large gas grill. The painters were supposed to come yesterday to put a coat of paint on the back deck but the owner of the company called and said he couldn't make it because of a family emergency.

So, assuming they come today or tomorrow the deck should be finished by Wednesday (2 coats) and I can dig into the grill. And check the fan operation. :D

Has anyone else here tried the Traeger pellets offered at Costco? 33 pound bag branded as "Gourmet" for $25. The bags are sturdier than the standard 20 pound bags and the Costco bag has a re-closeable top. The 20 pound bags sell for about $20 here in CA, so the Costco pellets are a good deal.
I believe the "Gourmet" is the same or similar blend as the "Signature" bags. So far, we have cooked chicken, steak and salmon at home with the Costco pellets and have been happy. For our Traeger Ranger on the boat, I still have a 20 pound bag that I am working on, but I will switch to the Costco pellets soon.
