Looking for someone for the day (or even half days depending on your schedule). Weekday(s) preferred. I am new to twin I/O so this would be for general instruction, tips etc and so I'm more confident about not destroying my neighbor's new Sailfish

I have reached out to several (some recommendations, some not) and just not hearing back.

I'll do it - I'm a 50gt master and owned a 2005 300 for 12 years - I'm available anytime - call me 413-454-8255 - Mike

You would be in good hands with Mike.

Thanks! It's a couple months before my scheduled Cape trip so I have time to lock it down.
Once you get the basics down then just go out and practice. A lot of it is just learning how the boat handles and how the wind and water effect it and adjust your movements to use those movements to your advantage as opposed to them taking advantage of you.

Thanks Phil - Have a great season with the family and don't forget to share pics of your outings with your CSR brothers!

Yes of course! And I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of those Bimini trips !!!

For all the tips about boat handling the best i ever learned was look out the windshield. See that female with the boat hook standing on bow as you come into slip? Its not her fault that you hit the piling, pier, boat next to you. Dont blame, yell at her. Just dont.

I got myself a float for my gas cap key. Today I went to the fuel dock, pulled out the key and the chain between the key and float broke .... so the key went right into the ocean

Otherwise a great day on the water :D

Those little chains are terrible. I think I'm going to use some sort of a thin cable on mine.

I'm trying one of these next

Spent another half day with Captain Steve recently, and it went great. He taught me the complete opposite of Captain Mike. So now I hear competing voices when I'm docking

So I've been practicing during the week (slow times) and it's been going well pulling into the dock. I'm able to get it into position, then jump off and tie her up.

When I go out I've been keeping an extra line near the helm in case anyone is around to offer assistance with the lines when I get back, then I can just throw it to them.

Today I pull in, nice and steady. And here comes three of my dock neighbors -- all long time boaters. One of them operates a fishing charter so he does this in his sleep. In fact he did a cleat hitch standing up which I still can't understand. But needless to say I completely screw it up at the end, bump the wrong throttle, and the boat is out of position but they grab the bow rails and walk it back into the slip.

What did they teach you? Did you prefer one way over the other? Glad to hear you're getting out there. That's the best way to learn.

All good stuff: for docking, one was all about center the wheel and spin the boat with the two engines. The other was all about use one engine at a time with the wheel. There is a pier nearby where I can practice. It would be great if there was a practice slip nearby with bumpers on it just in case :D
