Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Thanks for all the responses.

here’s another question for you.

replaced both impellers due to lack of the boat being used and it’s been several years since last replacement.
Both engines run great however, I get this message from Port engine only.
Smartcraft also shows much View attachment 109529 View attachment 109530 lower water pressure.
Any thought?

Hi,
From the screen, it looks like the STBD engine has high water pressure at idle. 43.5 psi Faulty sensor perhaps?
if you throttle up, does the pressure on the stbd engine change ?

port engine at 2.5 looks normal idling @ 650

The alarm mentions fuel level so that is confusing

I just went crazy on my new to me 04 over the winter. The sb side water pressure sensor needs to be replaced. Purchase an oem mercury sensor. The cheap ones on amazon will not work. I learned the hard way.

Thanks.
the Merc part is only $136 so that’s an easy choice.
just hope I don’t have to remove the pump to replace the sensor.

I was able to replace it by removing the fuel/water filter, small pair of vice grips will do the trick. The cheap sensor was given to me by the owner I bought from, he didnt really know too much about it. I wish you luck. This forum helped me a ton over the off season.

Anybody bringing a rigid inflatable along with them? U put it on swim platform or the bow? And where u store the motor? Thanks

Where has everyone been buying their Kohler generator parts?
Have the 5E onboard.

I’d like to do some preventative maintenance on it and can’t seem to find a good online resource for parts.

Most sites don’t accept the Kohler parts number.

I had really good luck with Amazon for the spring maintenance this year.

Matt,

I just replaced my starboard side water sensor 2 days ago. It's a 10 minute job and you don't have to remove anything. The water sensor sits on top of the water pump, just above the blue drain plug. unplug the connector, grab with a pair of channel locks or vice grips. Once loose, you can unscrew with your hands. Suggest shutting off the through hull for the raw water cooling to prevent additional water from flowing through the system; water will drain into the bilge, however.

For reference, I'm pretty sure mine got silt and debris in it while leaving my slip during low tide. I was churning up a bunch of mess. Anyway, once I throttled up the sensor errored and guardian brought then engine back to idle. Alarm was critical water pressure. I pulled the sensor, blew it out, put it back in and it fixed the problem. However, I had a 5 psi difference between port and starboard. Differing opinions on whether the difference is normal or not. I erred on the side of caution and replaced the starboard sensor. The PSI is now close to the same on both engines; less than 1 PSI difference.

I have a 2007 340 Sundancer with twin 8.1 and v drives. My smartcraft is giving a "Pitot Sensor Is Not Working Properly". I cannot find much info on topic. No performance issues, however, the beeping is annoying and eventually stops. Any help? I have read where this model does not even have Pitot's but you need to tell Smartcraft to ignore somehow. Kevin P.

No Pitot on v-drives. I began receiving the same error after I installed Mercury Vesselview. I reset the Smartcraft system so it rediscovered the sensors, but even after I reset it, the Pitot settings are still in the system and every so often the Pitot sensor alarm comes back. I simply silence it and ignore it. I don't know of a way to remove it or disable it from the Smartcraft system.

Anyone else have a clue?

Like the previous person said, that sensor with the high water pressure is probably bad. 2.5 PSI at idle is where it should be. I don't believe either Port or Starboard engines use Fuel Level Circuit 2; they only use Fuel Level Circuit 1. If I'm incorrect, someone with more knowledge of the sensors, etc. will correct me.

Sorry to make a mountain of an ant hill, I got fat finger problems and was just easier removing the filter for me. Everyone is different, i still also have a pressure discrepancy between the two motors as my new sensor shows lower psi at idle and under load but both motors are not struggling and no leaks were noted.

IT'S OFFICIAL!
My wife and I are the proud new owners of a, new to us, 2005 340DA 8.1's Vdrives.
lots of minor project to do to make the boat ours but we are really excited to get her home to South Florida.
New name will be Kay-LinSea

First of many questions.

Can someone tell me how to tell if we have the upgraded sound system?
We do not have the big tv on the bulkhead but that is one of my first projects for sure.

Thanks,
RandyView attachment 109034View attachment 109035View attachment 109036View attachment 109037

Very nice - congrats
I have 6.2 twin vdrives and on a 2005 340DA (375 here in Australia)
Great boat thus far - nearly had mine for 2 years now.
Interested read on the stereo - my sub woofer is very quiet - not sure if the sub/power issue or an amp issue.
Prob is electricians are so expensive here I need to wait for a friend to look at it for me.

Enjoy!

i would like to install a transom mount transducer that came with my new simrad go 9 chartplotter. i know that there could be some interference from the factory transducer, how do i know what the factory transducer is, and if it would be an issue?

On our 2008, the transducer for depth/temp is located on the centerline almost directly below the engine room electrical panel. I'm not sure about interference issues.

Just a quick follow up.
Replaced the starboard water pressure sensor and all is well now.
Both engines indicating the same pressure.
Thanks for the help.

on another note, I posted a question on a different forum about suddenly losing power to all helm switches.
Has anyone had this happen?

Hi Randy,
I had the same issue a few weeks ago on my port side engine.
Engine completely died and port side gauges were frozen (i.e. tach was stuck at 3000, etc, etc)

I reached out to Mercruiser and they suggested i check all the ground connections

They also recommended I replace the old "flag" style 50 amp breaker. They mentioned that it can separate internally and cause the exact behavior I mentioned above.
There is a new 50 amp breaker that supersedes the old breaker and here is the new part #

part number 11178A01

I hope this helps!

Hi everyone, I'm doing a survey next week on a 05 Sea Ray 340 8.1 V-drives... It has org manifolds and rises, with low hrs... I know hrs don't matter on maintenance items as for those... My plan is if I do buy it,,, Change manifolds & rises, Oil coolers, Trans coolers, and maybe shaft seals since while I have the manifolds off I can get under the engines... Whats everyone's opinion on org manifolds & rises from 2005???
