420/44 DB Owners Club

I think the jump to the QSC 500s is the biggest difference. Not all 08/09 that I see for sale have the fiberglass hardtop.
I have a 06, would love to have the hard top

going to install my rear camera. Its a raymarine cam220. has anyone installed one? i am plan on using backing into my slip and to make certain no one falls off the back.
if so where did you mount it.
thanks

We have a Mastervolt 12/40-3 that charges the port and starboard batteries - it original to 2004. Have had a couple errors lately. According to the Mastervolt error cheat sheet, one error is a 'Charger Failure', if reset, it can repeat or a triggers second error that is a high voltage error (from the battery monitor, voltage is 14.7v). I can't find anything that defines what 'charger failure' means ... but, I think both errors are related. Not sure what further diagnostics I can or should do? hoping someone else may have crossed this bridge.

Does this sound like the charger need to be replaced? If so, any guidance on brands/models?

I have a Raymarine infrared mounted on the rear top frame aimed downward at about 45 degrees. The orientation is flipped so that while the camera is facing rear, the left of my display screen shows port and right side of screen starboard. Raymarine allows this change otherwise it could become confusing when viewing. (otherwise left is right and right is left and this can an screw with your senses). Picture is nice and covers full beam. (Using E125) I initially had this installed due to starboard blind spot while backing into slip but it is also a nice safety feature which enables me to keep an eye on my wife when she is back there getting lines, etc. I happened to have a picture of the display as I was using to view my dinghy recently on newly installed davit while underway. I might have a better picture of camera install but the other photo provides a good idea of mount location.

Nice, would be interesting to see how its mounted to that frame.

I will grab some pics this evening. As I recall, the installer simply screwed the camera mount using two small screws into the tubed frame just beneath the canvas top. No cutting. He then ran the coax under the canvas around the starboard side perimeter of the top the into the radar arch following the chase down to helm level and then snaked the coax forward to helm. Initially I had this linked to a helm mounted SatTV which I added at the same time. I formerly had C120's which did not allow the CCTV interface so needed the TV to use as a monitor. (added bonus was linking to my SatTV system). The E-125 resolved that. Pretty cool. Just hit the camera icon on the home screen and I see all cameras. Engine room, rear, etc. Not overly complex. Running the coax is biggest part of the job.

Currently i have a small camera mounted under the back rest looking aft. This mostly just keeps an eye on the dinghy and it keeps me from hitting the dockbox when backing in. Not great but works decent. Would like to be able to see he full platform

Hello folks. I've been following the discusion on this thread regarding the lack of 420's for sale. I have been having an internal discussion about wether or not to sell mine. I absolutely love it, but I do not have the time to use the boat the way it's supposed to be used. That being said, I am have heartedly going to sell the boat, meaning, I'm simply going to sell it by word of mouth. No listings, no brokers. If someone comes along and a deal can be made, I will sell. So, if anyone out there knows of someone who is looking for a 2005 420 which is in really great shape and well cared for, please keep me in mind! The boat is located in Connecticut. Thank you all in advance.

I just ordered 300 lbs of lead ballast and planning on putting it in the same place under outboard guest bed. Does anything need to be placed between the lead and the fiberglass? I read on a sailing forum that they used Gorilla tape to secure the lead to the fiberglass.

Bags or bars? I did same with reclaimed lead shot which was prepackaged in 25 lb. nylon bags. 400 lbs. on port. Placed evenly in same area as well as bilge to rear near holding tank to spread weight out. Resolved starboard list perfectly. In over 10 years the bags have yet to move. If you have lead shot in bags then don't worry.

I ordered lead bars 2x4x8 @ 26.2 lbs each

Road trip!

I've been keeping my eye out for a 42/44DB since about July or so. There are some really nice ones out there and some not so much but man are they all expensive!!! It is probably a few months soon for us but we are shopping and looking for the right one to come along. I'll PM you my email address if you want to share a few pictures, specs, etc.

I have a camera in the galley high above the microwave. I can see the through the salon and out the slider, into the cockpit. I have an E120 so its a P I A to change from radar to cameras. Time for electronics upgrade.

I serviced the aftercoolers, heat exchangers, and transmission oil/fuel coolers last spring. It didn't seem like the oil/fuel cooler coils were replaceable. Are you possibly talking about having the aftercooler cores replaced?

It is very possible the O-rings on the aftercooler endcaps are not properly sealed. Corrosion on the faces of the aftercooler housing is not uncommon, which prevents a proper seal. It is a precise interface as one O-ring prevents cooling water from escaping past the cap, and also from making it's way to the intake loop. You can also check for leaks around the zincs.

After a run at reasonable RPM, get into the engine room and feel around the endcaps for moisture. The aftercooler is on the outboard side of the port engine, so most easily done by opening the port salon engine bay hatch.
Yes, the aftercooler cores were replaced... Thank you.

Does anyone know if the panels on-the aft deck ceiling pull down?
