Marine Max Vacations to BVI and the Bahamas

I’ll add the Norman hike into the itinerary!! And the books have been phenomenal! Lots of sticky notes added. The bourbon delivery to Deon is a certainty. He has had to put up with all of the calls from my wife so I should probably bring two bottles! Thank you again for all of your help!!!!!!

Hey there it is my pleasure we had plenty of help on our first trip that certainly help us from wasting time or "figuring
it out!! Have no schedule and stay were you like and for as long as you like!! Using Boaty Ball with the advanced reservation was very helpful and took some of the stress away! If you have used a mooring ball before then all the better - it really is pretty easy once you get that pennant its a breeze!!!
Have fun and cant wait to hear all about it!

Just a few more days until we depart. One change in our plans was the unfortunate news that one of the couples that was joining us had a family emergency and had to cancel the trip. We are down to the four of us on the Aquila, but we both own boats and shouldn't have any issues. Our shipmates have a 57' McKinna, so the 43' catamaran might seem small to them. :D I will update the thread with lots of pictures of the adventure as we cruise through the BVI.

Hello from the BVI! We are on day four of the trip which has been absolutely spectacular. Day one we stayed in the Nanny Cay Marina where Marine Max is based and picked up some last minute provisions and learned the boat before departing the next day.

Day two we decided we would travel counterclockwise around the islands. We stopped by the famous Baths on Virgin Gorda and stopped for the night at Saba Rock which just opened a few weeks ago.

So jealous!

Never driven/sailed a cat personally. Do they operate similar to any twin stick boat?
Yes I didn’t have any problems operating the Aquila. Twin Volvos in each one of the hulls. With a 24’ beam it is really stable and I found it has been very maneuverable at low/idle speed. It’s odd to me that cruising speed has the engines a little over 3k RPM around 15 knots.

Thanks for the info.

I need to book this trip!

Day three we traveled over to Anegada Island. We hit a little rain just as we were coming in to the harbor which made navigating the entrance buoys a little tricky. We rented a “Woke” Moke and toured the flatlands. Cow Wreck Beach and Loblolly Bay were fun stops. Lobster dinner at Potter’s capped off the evening.

Day four we headed to the Dog Islands which were pretty blown out with 15-20 knot winds so we checked in early to the Scrub Island Resort and Marina. More updates and pictures to follow.

Looks spectacular… a little different than trips to Catalina

Day five in the books for the most part. We headed west to Monkey Point on Guana Island and then over to Jost Van Dyke in Great Harbor. We took the dinghy over to the Soggy Dollar Bar for the day. Tonight is dinner at Foxy’s.

That sounds like a lot of fun.
Based on research the Mango drinks are better at the bar next to Soggy Dollar

We went to both The Soggy Dollar and Hendo’s Hideout. I thought the painkillers were better at SD. The food was really good at Hendo’s. The fun part is watching people coming ashore on their dinghies in the little surf. Pure comedy at times. :D

Did Foxy's rebuild? Is he still playing there live?
Foxy apparently plays live on the weekends. They had a DJ last night. Here is the building from our boat this morning. I think it is completely rebuilt.

Day 6 we decided to change plans. We spent the morning on Sandy Spit on the east end of Jost Van Dyke and then headed over to Cane Garden Bay. The swell was a little larger than normal so the little right hand break was occupied by 6 or 7 surfers as we came in. We had lunch at the Paradise and then walked over for some rum tasting at Callwood’s. Dinner at Quito’s capped off the evening.
