Phifertex - Metallica Smoke
Gipsy snaps used so a reflective cover snaps on top of this sun shade. The corners are attached using LOXX fasteners so this shade can remain installed when running; different from the Sundancers where you would have to remove. But, literally, it takes two minutes to install and remove....
The Phifertex significantly reduces heat but allows light in and a view out. The reflective sunshade greatly reduces the heat but blocks all of the light.

So just finished first winterization on the 48. It went very smoothly. I had never filled the engines via the Reverso pump, but I must say it’s pretty slick. It filled slow enough that you could watch it climb up the dipstick to set the level. Do you experienced guys agree?

One question about the shaft seals…I just ran 5+ gallons through the each of the mains, got good pink floor at above water exhaust, so did that take care of the shaft seals or is there another step?

Our 44DB and a friends 58DB came with black front salon screens. A few years a go we had white versions made, not pictured. On hot summer days the salon is noticeably cooler around the window and the air conditioning runs less frequently. On the hook, the AC is often not needed. Never had to clean the original much, the white version needs scrubbed twice a year.

Hi Guys I was wondering if anyone could give me some info about the shade that goes over the back of the boat such as price, where to find, and any additional info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rod

Do you mean the rear canvas and or the drop curtain?

I am surprised you didn’t have the reverso on the 44…. I always fill the oil thru the reverso for all three… I have always had 5 gallon buckets though…this year I had a lot of 1gl because of Covid I guess….so just went thru the valve cover …that worked fine as well
I did have the Reverso on the 420, but because of the cavernous engine room, I always filled through the valve cover. I would use the 1 gallon jugs of oil as they were easier to handle, and set the level "manually".

Since the 48 has to be filled through the Reverso, I wasn't exactly sure (because I had never done it) how the fill procedure was going to go. After doing it once, I was amazed how easy it was. Next year, I'm getting 5 gallon jugs!

Jay I also have always used 5 gallon pails of oil with the Reverso pump. I've found it much easier to work with 3 pails rather than all those jugs. Of course my personal challenge each year is to see if I can do all 3 engines without spilling any oil at all!

I will try them thanks, however OCGRANT has something similar to what I'm looking for on his boat picture...

This one? I had it custom made with no window and all the way down.

Rod, Here is the info for the poles. The canvas is custom but easy. Where are you in Boston? I was there all last week freezing my florida ass off for work.

This is where I got my poles, I have the deluxe. Stand by as this winter I am working on version of this for the front.

Thanks for the info your boat looks awesome!, I'm from the South Shore(Braintree) Unfortunately it's getting cold up here counting the days to spring :)

As one of the last steps of winterizing, I take off the air-seps and bring them home for a proper cleaning. I cover the turbo inlet to prevent moisture/critter instusion. On my 420, the air-seps were "red". I expected the air-seps on the 48 to be blue, but they are black. Perhaps just very dirty? So my question is, without knowing any detailed history on the air-seps, do you think these are refurbishable with the blue cleaning/oil kit or would it be prudent to just get a new field service kit and establish a new baseline?

Also, this is the kit that I found on Fisheries Supply: https://www.fisheriessupply.com/walker-airsep-cce-field-service-kit-cummins-qsc-engines/1000267

Correct one?

Thanks in advance,

Jaybeaux

Whenever we are out on the boat and it is hot, I take the 3 minutes it takes to deploy the windshield cover. It really cuts down on the radiant heat load. Before I throw a 48 on the scraphead of potential boats, I'd look to see how much something like this costs. Mine came with the boat when we bought her so I can't give you an idea on cost.

Jaybeaux....you need to get on that anchor....its not suppose to match the hull :)

@Shaps Finished the season with 1155 hours on the engines. The field service kit for 2 engines is $535 and includes cleaning kit. P/N 1000267.

@Blueone I paid extra for that oil finished look!

Walker recommends replacing the internal Oil Mist filters every 500Hrs. if your history is unknown, seems like the field service kit is the right move.
