Hello, Looking at a 2007 52 Sundancer that spent it's first 10 years on Clear Lake just off of Galveston Bay. Since 2017 it has been on the gulf side of Florida.
Should I look at it as being in salt water it's entire life or brackish (for 10), is that even any better ???
I can certainly see signs of salt atmosphere from the last 4-5 years, not horrible but it's there.
It would be going to fresh water in Tennessee.
I know, survey etc. etc. Just gathering info. Thanks !!

P.S. If this goes into a salt water discussion, I have another option close by... no transport etc. A 2005 500 Sundancer (basically the same boat) Two owner with a known local fresh water history... so no transport etc. BUT it does not have a hydraulic swim platform and that "was" one of my must have's. Two quotes on a platform, $38k and $45k :-o Would certainly be upside down in the 2005 unless I kept it 10+/- years.
By the time I got the 2007 to me they will be about the same cost (2007 is actually cheaper)

IMHO...big SR boats were built for saltwater and I see no problem as long as they have been properly maintained. #1 being the raw water side of the engines and #2 being the gelcoat. I purchased a 2007 44DB that had spent its first 10 years in FL on the Gulf coast. Bought the boat to a FW lake and never an issue. We now have a 2003 420DA that spent the first 17 years of its life in brackish/SW and again, never an issue. Being properly maintained and having good engine and hull surveys are the key. Again, only my opinion...

I’ve lived and grew up in Florida. I just spent 20 years in Illinois.

It was like a Boulder lifted off my chest boating in freshwater. I will never ever buy a saltwater used boat.

Salt goes everywhere and corrodes anything.

Some people have no concerns.

I agree with Bennett -
That said, you're going to have to fix things ... constantly if you want them to work when you want them to. The boat that I have now was in FL and is now in Clear Lake, you'd be hard pressed to tell it apart from a fresh water boat
