240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Crickets...CHIRP CHIRP...

Well anyway, couple quick questions..

Looking for one table pole for the 2001 240 and any info on the molding/gasket for the head compartment main door. Called MM and they don't have anything and were less than helpful.

Fun projects ahead on mine as follows:
Adding the Blue Sea Systems add a battery system (second boat i have done this with), additional battery and all Ancor Marine wiring to fix the older electrical wiring. Moving the Radio and AMP to the second battery. Will have the original battery as a spare(third), but it will not be used at this time. Eventually I will add subs and additional speakers and that will power those.
Adding a Fusion Radio, wired and wireless remotes paired with a JL amp and speakers
Changing the EIM to FP Marines setup with Carling switches and a custom cutout for the wired Fusion remote
(mine is working but the dash was cracked and i don't want to have issues with the Peanut pad later)
SeaDeck!!!
I have already fully rewired the trailer with new wiring and LED lighting, and I repaired the surge brakes, will be adding VE VE posts and lighted tops(we love boating till late at night and it helps getting the boat off the lake)
Eventually we will change out the cup holders to stainless
Replacing the winch strap as well, due in part to age.
Finally, when the weather warms up, I'll give it a full compound, polish and coating. I'll be looking into marine compatible ceramic coatings, but I also remember something about a PTEF based coating. Not sure about the durability of that. I just know wax is a waste of time and requires re application.

Cheers and happy New Year!!

Great To Do list! I have a 2016 240 Sundeck and the original Rockford Fosgate RFX9901 DM2 simply quit working. Local shop says it is toast which apparently is common for this model. The only choice they said is replace possibly with Fusion but of course the old remotes (2) and wiring harness wont work with newer Fusion so they are quoting over $1k installed. I reached out to SeaRay direct to see if they had any original units left I could just replace with same and they supersede the old to new in their system which is putting me in same position. For now, I am buying a bluetooth JBL Extreme 3 which will probably sound better than stock system anyway for under $400. If anyone has any other suggestion on the original unit I am open as it would be good to have one that works in the boat!

Take a look at Fusion again. They have wireless (battery powered) stick on remotes that you can put anywhere. I have two of those and one wired that will be in the switch panel on the helm. The wireless units will be put on the transom and up front in the bow area. They were relatively inexpensive and look great.

great info, I will check it out thank you

Thanks, Espos4.

Next question: Any idea what this is? It attaches to a water hose.

FWIW, I had a flush kit installed late last year. Love it! I keep my 2005 SD 240 on a lift and while I do have a platform back there, it is quite the stretch to get the muffs on. This is so much easier than getting down under the swim platform to use the muffs.

Hi,

I’m a two time boat owner, looking for my next ride. My first boat was a Crownline 23’ dual console, which I traded for a Tidewater 22 CC. While I like to fish, I learned that I like the layout and space of a dual console more.

Right now, I am looking at a 220 or 240 Sundeck (there are several older models available locally). Does anyone know what model year(s) these underwent significant upgrades or changes? I looked at a 2003 220 and felt it was the ideal size or us (I will be trailering it with an Infiniti QX80 (8500 lb towing/1440 lb payload), but only wish it had more storage, such as an in-floor ski locker. The 2001 240 I looked at seemed enormous in comparison (much larger than two feet more). I love the layouts and amenities of the current models and ideally would want an outboard, but those appear to be beyond my budget.

Tomorrow, I’m going to look at a 2006 240 that looks to have been meticulously maintained and just had major service items done (including manifolds/risers). Any of you tow this with a half-ton pickup? Is the 5.0 liter MPI/Bravo III enough “umph” for a full boat of people? The Crownline I had weighed about 500 lbs more but had the Volvo 5.7, which was more than adequate.

My budget is around 30K but will spend more for a gem. I’m in the Tampa Bay area.

Thank you for any and all advice!

The actual hull of the 240 was the same 2000-2009 (maybe 2010 also?)

The 240 has a bolt on swim platform, the 220 Has it molded into the hull. In those model years, bolt on platforms typically weren't included in the boat model designation, but molded platforms were. The result is that The 240 (26' 4") is almost 4' longer than the 220.

Upholstery colors were similar 2000-2004. 2005-2007 had their own upholstery colors. 2008-2009 again had their own patterns.

The older models had troublesome "peanut Pads" for many functions like horn, lights etc.
Toggle switches were used around 2005 and newer.

2007 and newer had the option of "DTS" digital throttle and shift.

I tow mine with a 2018 F-150, 3.5l with max tow package. Tows fine, but horrible gas mileage. I used to have a F250 diesel, which did better. My 2006 240 was weighed at 6500# on an aluminum trailer. (gear, fuel, ice chest, etc. add a lot of weight, that boat has TONS of storage.)

I have the 300 HP 350 Mag, which does fine for water sports. However, I wouldn't want to try to ski with the smaller motor if there were very many people on board.

Thanks for the responses. One more qq (hoping to come to terms on a boat and put a deposit down today). I looked at a 2006 240 at a marina yesterday - it's in great shape (even has a newer and larger 383 Stroker). The layout is very similar to a boat I once owned (2006 Crownline 236 LS). The one thing I did not like was the placement of the boarding ladder on the swim platform - it's in the center of the platform, over the outdrive. I usually keep the drive trimmed all the way up when at the sandbar so I don't have to worry as much about tidal swing and hitting bottom when the tide goes out, but it would seem to interfere with the ladder? I forgot to turn the wheel all the way to one side to see if it clears it...anyone think this is an issue or found a way to work around it?

Never had an issue. We don't beach ours, but same position when on the trailer in the driveway and using the ladder to get in. Not a problem.

...as to the one at the marina, if it is what you are looking for, you better put a deposit on it with lake test contingency. It might not be there Monday.

With the steering wheel straight and the drive trimmed all the way up, the ladder works perfectly. It is possible to make contact with the prop if you put your foot all the way through the rung to the point that your heel is on the rung.

I will just turn the wheel a little off center when anchored.

I have a 2003 220 6.2L Sundeck and while I wasn’t going to set any speed records it towed fine behind a 2006 Silverado.

one note, they didn’t start including the swim deck in the overall length until 2010. My 220 has an overall length of 23 1/2 ft

Espos is correct, we always trim down a tad when we beach so the grands don’t kick the prop, or slip through and skin the knees, but it does clear the ladder when tilted all the way up.

Never had an issue with the rear ladder when trimmed all the way up. Of course, I always turned off the engine. Depending on the sandbar/beach the front ladder worked wonders too.

We trimmed up the outdrive, and I'd turn the steering all the way to the side so the prop was on the starboard side of the swim platform. Then just tell the kiddies to not play near the swim platform, and no oops moments when boarding the ladder

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement bimini sway bar (part #1770066) for a 2008 SD240? I was taking the top down the other day and the bar fell off, bounced off the swim platform and sank to the bottom of LI Sound.

That isn't something that SR stocks... at least not for quite a while. Stop by your local chandlery a buy a piece of matching tubing (and fittings if needed) and just cut it to fit. Other than that, you'll probably be googling for 5 years till you find it, if you're lucky.

FYI... you're not in the correct 240SD thread. This thread is about the earlier 240SD which is a completely different boat (and bigger). Not that it really matters for this question - just a heads up.

Irish, I'll measure the length of the tube on mine and get back to you. Lazy is right, just buy some stock and the ball ends and make it yourself.

Hey Lazy, one correction, this thread covers 240 Sundecks up to and including the 2009 Models. 2010 and newer are the smaller size 240's.

You're absolutely right. For some reason, I had "2010" in my head as I was writing. Not sure why, though.
