Should you buy a gun or not?

Why would I need a gun? I support the police.

So do I.

I still carry.

Troll

Twice I have gotten would-be muggers to retreat by racking the slide and pointing the red laser dot in the right direction. Both incidents happened in less than a minute. When seconds count the police are minutes away. No fault of theirs, they just can't be everywhere at once. Detectives took our statements at the station later. They told us our city does not track incidents of that type. They said we did the right thing and they were glad someone in our party was carrying because otherwise in their experience the outcome likely would have been very different.

I don’t even have to rack a slide (revolver) on the summer carry. Winter, a Colt 1911. Not many want to argue with a .45

I carry everywhere I go. Unless I’m asked or there is a sign.

IF you do carry or buy a handgun…practice practice practice. Also know the laws and reciprocity laws concerning your state or Commonwealth

I carry everywhere as well. If there is a sign. I go elsewhere. Safety first is my motto.

Signs do not carry the weight of law in every state and in some that do (Missouri) they can only ask you to leave...

Advanges and disadvantages to both. There are times when I don't want a round chambered.
A defensive firearm should be ready to go at all times. If you are uncomfortable carrying with a round in the chamber, I humbly suggest you invest in more training and range time. The safety on all firearms rests between your ears.

Nothing says stop or I’ll shoot like the action of a 1911 except maybe the action of a Winchester Model 12 but it isn’t a hand gun…

Mine is always ready to fire and neither have a safety. I just think it's bad practice to leave the chamber empty. Suppose you are under attack and one arm is being restrained or worse?

Same with PA. My understanding is Ohio is different. Private business signs hold the weight of the law from what I was told. So being close to the border I leave mine in the truck when I go in a place with signage. PA is a different story

I'm starting to miss the bikini thread. Wouldn't it be great to see a bikini gal with a big ol' pistol strapped on?

Not a matter of range time. When I am at someone's home with their children present I prefer not to have a round chambered. In my judgement, I would have enough warning of a defensive need in that environment to chamber a round. When I am out in public, I typically have a round chambered.

This 'signs don't carry the weight of the law' thing is misunderstood by many. Some folks think if a place isn't specifically designated 'no weapons' by law then they're free to carry if they want and anywhere they want regardless of signage...not so. In every place, business or home, the owner or management still has the right to keep some people out. Just like 'no shoes, no shirt, no service' or a restaurants 'jacket required' is 'no firearms allowed'.

So where do you do all this gun handling
To load and unload?

Don’t believe I’ve ever heard of a properly holstered gun going off.

Have heard of a gun in the hand being negligently fired.

My point is, you and everyone around you is safer if you load, apply safety if nec., and holster. The ONLY time a N/D is possible is when you’re handling it.

Exactly my thoughts when I read that post...

Lawn, if you comfortable carrying with one empty by all means do it! One more round won’t make much difference. But one more trained person with a gun will! My revolver does not have a safety or a hammer for that matter, but she is fully loaded. That’s my choice.

Tim I’m a lucky one. I have 6ac that are clear. It all drops slowly to a low area with a berm. I use frag rounds in my 223’s and wade cutters in my handguns. Two hanging steel targets. Training is a big key in my book. I know of many that spent big bucks buying a gun and have never touched again and the guns never been shot.
