Hi All, Happy sailings!
I'm new to the cruising world and got myself a great 2005 Sundancer 260. I've figured everything out so far, working on the macerator, not sure if I have it yet, don't want to open the valve in the marina!! Anyway, I can't figure out how to get inverter power to run my microwave for a few minutes. I want to use it while on the water and not connected to shore power. The microwave works fine on shorepower, but I can't seem to get it runing on the Xantrex inverter. The inverter/charger is a Freedom Marine 30. I have a Link 1000 that controls it. I shut off the shore power, select inverter on the Link, it switches the LED to Invert, I then select the microwave AC120 switch on, and no power. I even switched the outlet AC120 power on, nothing. So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help is appreciated. Damn electrons!

It might not be wired up to run the microwave…that inverter was definitely not factory.

Who installed and did they provide a schematic?

Agree. The inverter will only be wired to specific circuits not the AC buss directly. Not uncommon on boats for equipment to be installed with little to no documentation. One needs to be pretty skilled at visually determining how things are wired in some of these electrical panels. Open the AC panel and determine which Circuit Breaker controls the Microwave. and see how it is wired up on the Line side of the circuit breaker to determine if it is powered by both shore power and the inverter. Good luck with that.

Hey thanks for replying, I figured it out on Sunday, so this is aftermarket, and when I leave the dock, I don't really bother shutting the shore power switch off near the galley sink below, because I just use DC power. Well, if I shut it off, then select the Link 1000 to Invert, the little green light comes on saying its ready, then I switch to shore power, the microwave clock comes on. It works. I just select shore power off, then Invert off and I'm back to DC. So this works!

It appears then that the inverter is powering up the shorepower cord also. It looks, if this is the case, that you have a very hazardous condition both at the shorepower plug and when connected to shorepower.

I’m not sure what you mean here? As I understand it, in the galley electrical panel, I have switches for AC & DC equipment. Above that are switches to where I draw power from, either shore or generator. Since I don’t have a generator, there is no switch. At the bottom of my panel is the Link 1000 controlling the Xantec. So, if I’m moored, I plug into shorepower, shorepower switch is on, I get power and voltmeter works. At sea, no shorepower. I can leave switch as is. However, if I want 110 VAC, I have to tell Xantech to invert, then I have to route that power to the AC side. This is accomplished by the shorepower switch, if it was left on, the Link 1000 must have something in it to sense that the switch was left on, and not to provide power, however, if the shorepower switch was off prior to the invert demand, I will receive 110 VAC when I switch the shorepower switch to on. I’m happy. Once. I’m done with the inverted power, I select it off, switch Xantex back to charge an plug in once back at mooring.
