Effort/Cost to replace Tides shaft seals?

Decided to stick with the Tides, but now the service advisor now says that they can't put a spare seal on because they can't get it to fit. He also said not to bother because they can never change them without pulling the shaft anyway.

I won't be at the boat until launch day so I can't verify.

Any of you diesel 400 DA guys have a spare Tides on your boat or know whether it should fit?
Hey, Yobub, old post, but how did it go. I may have a leaking one which may need tending to this winter. Found the spare holders zipped tied to the bulkhead so they have been already used.

Skipper Buds installed the Tides. They only installed one, as they said there wasn't room for a spare. No issues at all afterward.

Hope the new boat is treating you well!

So far so good. But everything is new to me. I have to learn all over again. Took me 10 min to figure out how to take the radio cover off. :)

Also turns out that my seals where replaced with PSS seals. They left the extra tides seals in their holders attached to the bulkhead.

I had spares on my 400DA.....

I can replace one in less than 4 hours. That number is horrible in my opinion. I think Using a hydraulic puck makes a big difference. It makes removing the coupler a non issue.
I would take the advise of the above poster and do the cutless bearing at the same time. I don’t see the value with replacing the entire lip seal unit. Mine has worked for 25 years with little maintenance.

What is a hydraulic puck and how would you use this? I may be interested in doing my shaft seals in the off season on my 340SDA.

It makes short work of pulling the coupler. They probably cost upwards of $2000 with the right adapters. They can be made for much less

I should have asked you to come replace them. I "suggested" that there might be room, but ultimately if I'm paying someone to do something I can't do myself, I try not to tell them how to do it.

My 400 has spares as well. I had all 4 lip seals swapped out last summer and had my shafts checked at the same time.

Unless it’s very recently been done, cutlass bearings at the same time is a good idea.
