Do you have the manual?

Find the model number and do some internet searching. If the generator is down in a hole the best bet is to take a picture of the sticker on top of the control module that has all that information so you can manipulate the picture to see the number.

The manual has a good trouble shooting section near the back. If you are a DIY'er there are some tests spelled out in the manual to rule out faulty sensors.

ok thanks I think I have the manual

When the impeller was replaced were there any vanes or pieces missing? If so the resulting blockage in the heat exchanger will cause an overheat shutdown.
The impeller I replaced looked good but it doesn't seem to be pumping much water out the exhaust

There is a restriction in the raw / cooling water system somewhere or a leak that is allowing air to enter up line..
Was the genny overheating prior to changing the impeller?

I replaced an impeller this season that looked as new but the metal hub was spinning freely. No water pumping at all.

There is a pump drive sleeve that probably broke

We just went through this on a Northern Lights Gen. Would run for 5 mins and shut off. Changed impeller. Same thing. Cleaned exchanger. Same thing. No codes. Just to eliminate the possibility, we pulled the thermostat and ran it without one. Ended up being the unit was shutting off on temperature due to a stuck thermostat. Rare thermostats stick, but this one did.
