Jones Inlet

My friend just had his boat repaired at Mako marine in Freeport, He is taking the boat back to Patchogue, The guy at the marine said to stay inside an do not go out Jones inlet as it has shoaled up bad and dangerous.

Does anyone have an update on this?

Kevin I winter stored in Freeport and went out of Jones last month. At high tide I did NOT see anything less than 8 feet (from the transducer). The cans are out and now mostly on the south side... at one point almost at the end of the west jetty, you need to make a hard turn to the west b/f making another turn to the east. The can to the west is way off in the distance, I would say at least 1/4 of a mile away, so be heads up.... Also there's shoaling now in an area that actually had water last year. Keep an eye to the west so you can pick up that next can.
Give me a call tomorrow and I can share more.

From the Jones inlet fb page today.
The Jones Inlet red 4A buoy is missing

Ran to ocean today. The 4A buoy that marks the western edge of the new channel is missing. Hopefully people have it marked on their GPS’. Also I noticed where I had my original waypoint for the 4A buoy there is shoaling starting. So be aware and stay even further west.

I went through Jones Inlet yesterday on a friend's boat. We went out following the jetty and returned through the buoys. After the JI buoy there was a red and green buoy. The next buoy is all the way by point lookout. Looks like you are on your own going through the inlet. We did not hit bottom either time but could not tell depths.
