DIY Dry Bilge System

I was able to temporarily install the dry bilge system on the boat this past Saturday. The hardest part was installing the the pick up to the bottom of the bilge. Since I was in test mode I didn’t want to run screws through the fiberglass just yet so I used plastic zip ties. I did find that the discharge hose would be best to run to the engine hatch drain system.

This set up works extremely well. The 1/8 intake hose makes things slow going but does suck out most of the water.

I did find out that the Surflo pump IS ignition protected but the timer is not. If you are considering a system like this I would mount the pump in the engine bay and mount the timer near the helm. The plastic box does make it look fancy but not really needed.

Lastly, as Lazy Daze suggested, “find the reason you are getting water in the bilge”. In my case I found that the starboard shaft seal is indeed leaking. I have a haul out schedule in the beginning of February and will add this to my list.

Whelp...order placed. I've been on the fence about these things for a while now but that one pushed me over the edge.

I may not get it installed before spring but I'll surely let you guys know how it looks.
Me too… ordered the 3 station kit with their discount code on Facebook. Figured I would give it a try.

So Bill the owner called me today to tell me that while he could full fill my order but he had a new version coming out next month with updated software. Also they are going to do a 4 pump system. I told him to hold my order and call me when he is ready with the latest version. Super good guy… Looking forward to getting mine sometime in mid to late January.

Whelp....my first impressions are not great. But I have high hopes that it works well in the long run.

My unit arrived wet inside the packaging. I hope this indicates it's been bench tested? It's also all scratched to heck all over, pretty beat up. Since this is not a cosmetic piece I'm going to plug her in and give it a go this weekend (on my bench) to see how it works. If this were something I cared about aesthetically, for $200, I'd be sending it back.

An interesting design decision - the big label they apply to the pump is not waterproof. Mine is starting to peel off due to the wet shipping situation :)

These photos are straight outta the box. This is a veteran owned company so I'm 100% going to do my best to love this thing.

Bummer, that look used to me, not bench tested. Also, the piece in the bottom right of your pic looks bent or broken. I would send that pic to them and see what they have to say before you go any further.

I did. They were super quick to respond. It's new and bench tested, hence the wet. I'll give it a shot this weekend. Hoping for the best in terms of performance/function.

I have a little water that collects in the stern bilge, and then some that collects in the sump under the aft seating area in the Salon. I was going to try and hook everything to one of these, but I've decided to split it up between two pumps. One in the engine room and one in the salon. I bought a Sea Flo dry bilge system for the salon, and am going to wait the upgraded version of this thing (assuming Stee6043 gives it his stamp of approval) early next year. Will let everyone know how the sea flo one works. It looks more professionally packaged, I can tell you that.

Well in spite of it's looks (as shipped) the performance of this unit seemed to be pretty great on the bench. I was curious if it would pump with enough pressure/volume to get all of the water out of the lines once the water cleared, and it did.

It pumped about 1/4 gallon of water in maybe 30 seconds, max. It's no bilge pump but it'll certainly clear the leftovers in the 2 minutes it runs. Allegedly it'll run for 2 minutes every 12 hours but I am not going to leave it plugged in overnight on my bench, I trust the technology :)

I located the pump 30" or so above the buckets and then a catch can another 12" or so above the pump. No issues with a little bit of head, I believe she'll work like a charm...and it's quiet! Can barely hear it running.

I have this unit and it works but mine has two inputs/pucks and is very quiet. However, it does not turn on by itself. I have to click a remote control for it to turn on.
