Hello all, I am buying a 97 420 AC. One of props has a bent corner on one of the blades. My plan is to pull the boat and swap the props before I drive it to its new home along with a shaft seal. The damage was discovered during the survey and I didn’t think to get any info off the prop. My question is; does any one know what props would be on this boat? 3116 Caterpillars, 1 1/4” shafts. I contacted Sea Ray with the HID but there records no longer go back that far. thank you in advance

If it’s just a bent corner what about just repairing what you have? Also check your survey, he may have identified the props in there.

I am planning on having it repaired. Reason for a new one is to make a quick repair. I don’t want to haul it out, block it up, send out the prop for repair and wait for it to come back. Best case a couple weeks? Pull the boat, leave it in the sling - change shaft seal and the prop, right back in the water. General info from the surveyor, no specifics.

Did the surveyor mention what that prop generally costs? I think you're going to be in the $3-5k ballpark for a single prop. That's a lotta cabbage for a hot swap...

Welcome to CSR. Congrats on the new boat! But I'd double check that shaft diameter before you spend any money.

That is correct. New set of props are very expensive. If you don't want to re-haul and wait, I'd say run the boat with the prop ding and see how it does. If no major vibrations or problems you may want to wait until next winter to do the propeller work. You also mentioned leaking shaft seal which might be the bigger issue. Again, you need to investigate that further.

For reference this was a $400 repair with about a 2 week turnaround (the prop only, not all the other issues you may notice in this photo :)).

My prop search - the bronze props were about 8k (not going there). Saw some silver ones - about 1500. Was going to go with the silver one (both nibral - whatever that is) as a temporary until I got the original fixed. I was told I’m safe moving it as is. Broker is asking if the seller knows what’s on there. I figured it was worth giving it a shot by posting the question. I’m sure I’ll have more. Thanks for the input

Nibral is nickel bronze and more expensive than bronze. Not sure where you’re seeing silver props for $1500. I assume used. By the way, new props may take two weeks to get in (mine did this winter).
