What's in your boat tool kit?

........the same hand tools mentioned here including a voltmeter +:
Dead blow hammer
Fuses for all sizes that are in/on the ECM
Electrical tape
Wood plugs
Lock picks
Zip ties of various sizes from 3" up to 2' long

the main thing I keep recommending here are spare keys. They're not a tool per se but get them before you need them.

Hey Todd,

I have a question for you.

I have three sets of keys. One we use, one at home, one at the marina in their lock box.
I could see us being away from the marina on the boat and accidently lock our keys in the cabin.

I’m considering getting an additional cabin door key to hide onboard but I’m struggling over a good hiding place. This place should be hard to access and not easy for a criminal to find. I’m thinking somewhere in the engine compartment would be best.

Do you have a suggestion?

Yea, but if he posts them here they would not be a secret anymore.

I would like to add that I keep two "bendy Funnels/ straws"???? from the auto parts store.. They look like the corugated part of a bendy straw, and one end screws onto an oil quart or 2 liter bottle for topping off fluids in hard to reach spots and not spilling all over the E.R.--- they're like 50 cents apiece.....

I would add a spark plug socket for your generator as well as a wire brush - for when it fouls its plugs when you need to use it.

Electrical ties. I just used one last weekend to jury rig the idle stop when the idle air control valve failed. It is much easier to dock when you engine does not stall...

Pull a hose off the holding tank and dangle it in there from a wire. Even if a thief finds it, it won't want to get it or use it.

Best regards,
Frank

But he'll be driving home to get the other set before using that one himself.

Depends on how badly he wants to go boating versus driving home for the spare keys.
