Weak shafts on 2004 340 Sundancer

I have been boating for over 20 years without a claim. The one time I needed them I was denied. I had my agent set me up with a different co. Sporters 78 you have been thru two shafts? How many hours did you have when each shaft snapped? Did you replace them with the same type or go with the stronger Aquanet 22?

Raz,
shafts were made down here in florida -about 1200 each, first one broke at around 600 hours running about 3200rpm , that happened about 13 miles off shore coming back from a 10 day trip in the Bahamas . Second one broke this spring on the St. .lucie river around 3000rpm and around 700 hours. Not sure of what they were made from.. Don't know what the ones that broke were made from or if the were original ones that come with the boat as we bought the 340 used. I have had good luck with both BoatUs for insurance and towing. Both broke by the key way on the shaft. Never broke a shaft before on any other sea ray that I had.( 23 bow rider, 37da 48 sd 54 da) but busted penty of props up :)

I had a very similar experience. I also had 600 hours when mine snapped. We were coming back from Martha's Vineyard I was 3 miles east of Watch Hill point in RI at 3300 rpm when the starboard shaft broke. Luckily we were not far from home. If it had happened on the way out our vacation would have been ruined. There is obviously an issue with the 340. I think I am going to have to be proactive and replace my port shaft. We have a few long trips planned for this summer and I don't need to go thru this again.
