first run this season with the boat and discovered a totally new problem that we did not have last year. Leaking toilet. seems to be coming out from under the back of the toilet where it meets the floor. first noticed that it would not hold water in the bowl. (porcelain bowl, electric flush head with macerator) then found where the water was going... leaking where its sealed to the floor then draining to shower drain... probably not something i'm going to tackle myself unfortunatlely unless i find it may be something very easy. What is most likely the culprit here and how to fix it? Thanks... Sundancer 270 1996.

Says ITT JAbsco 37010 0000 model. That pump i discovered is leaking. Right at the seam in the pump itself. A steady drip. Got it to stop by shuting the valve in the bilge area. I didnt wintrrize it myself but my latest thought is that was missed and now its toast. What do you think? I had a pic but the site wont let me post i guess...

I have the same model toilet, and I've rebuilt it twice over the years to keep it going. Sounds like you have a bad seal. If you're handy you can buy a repair kit with the gaskets and seals and repair it yourself. It's not as bad as it sounds. I took my toilet out, cleaned with bleach water and took it apart and reassembled with the new parts from the repair kit. The seal kit is available from West Marine, Defender and others.

Well im glad to hear it may be repairable but after winters storage and using it for the first time i sort of assumed it froze and cracked or something. Not repairable. You dont think so? Also the bowl was not holding water and im wondering if this is a separate issue. that repair kit wouldnt fix that too would it?

We'll its certainly possible that it froze and busted if it was not winterized. I just pour about 1/2 gallon of pink antifreeze in the bowl and pump it through the toilet with the supply valve closed. I would remove the toilet and get a good look at the motor/pump on the back end, then you should be able to decide if it's a freeze problem (in which case it's probably not repairable) or leaky seals.
As far as the bowl not holding water I'd have to see it to diagnose it. Hope this helps. You

You've done a good job taking it apart to this point. I would not be too worried about the cracks in the porcelain. The water is not under pressure as it enters the top. You should replace the rubber gasket since you have it apart. I'd be more concerned about the condition of the motor inside because of the leaks. Take the pump off the motor and take the endframes off the motor. If motor looks ok then buy seal kit and replace seals. Id give this a 50/50 chance that its repairable. Good luck.

Thanks, not my typical line of work:) my latest thoughts are a new pump would be $200. A complete new bowl that comes with that same pump would be around $400 from what I saw online. Would probably be less of a headache for me to put in and/if it all comes attached. Id only have to worry about the holes lining up on my floor. I will be looking at it today and decide. Thank you.

I would consider other brand toilets. They will cost more and probably would not be plug and play but they would be quieter send more reliable. You could search this and other boating sites for details.

If you go for replacement, pay lots of attention to inlet, and outlet sizes and placement in relation to your old one. That can be a real pita if they differ much.
