I was coming thru Cape Cod bay yesterday in some nasty water. Took a pretty good beating.
Boat handled fine, but the smartcraft beeped a handful of times and a few times the boat seemed to lose power. I could put it full throttle, get about 4000 rpm and the boat would only go a few kph. Bring it neutral (while getting pounded by waves) for a minute and then seem to run fine. Reading "engine sensor" and "trim sensor". A little nerve racking to say the least with 10 miles to go. I'm having my mechanic check it out later this week, but wondering if anyone had some thoughts beforehand so I don't look completely clueless (which i am so far with this boat).
Thanks!

I had the same problem once, but hasn't returned since it happened a month ago. Did you find out anything? Thanks!

It sounds like ecm put the system into guardian/limp mode to protect the engine. When certain sensors trigger a fault this will happen to prevent further possible damage. When the tech scans the computer it will show the fault codes and they will be better able to diagnose.

Thanks KevinC, kind of what I figured. They were probably 6 footers with a pretty full boat and full tank of gas. Thermostat looked fine, but was running pretty high RPM at a low speed.
mdohara - Have not used it since and have not had it checked yet. not going to get much use the rest of the season other than putting around the harbor.

If you saw 4K on the tach, and the boat was only going a few MPH, then there's an issue with the running gear, not the engine. Could be a severely banged up prop or you may have simply wrapped a rope or had a bunch of seaweed hanging on the drive. Still get your codes read, but guardian mode will limit/control the engine, not the drive.
