Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

I have a 2000 310 Sundancer with V drives. Anyone happen to know what size the port battery is? Need to replace mine and forgot to look at the size before I left the boat yesterday. I am thinking maybe a group 31 but not sure. As I remember it was slightly larger than the other two which are wired in parallel. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I use a group 27 AGM for the port starting battery. Never had a problem since I put it in four years ago.

My stock steering wheel has cracked in several places, and it's starting to feel uncomfortable when steering. It doesn't break the skin, but it almost cuts my hand(s) often when turning. It was fine for years, then after one season - it's cracked in several places. Sure, I can buy an aftermarket one, but I want to keep the original.. either glue and repair, or use clear tape.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

There is a place in California that repairs wood steering wheels I forgot the name of the place

I know I have seen this on here before, but I can't find it. Wondering if anyone can tell me what type of batteries they have on their 310. For the side with two in parallel, I have two cranking batteries. For the side with only one, I have a deep cycle. I have had this setup for the 12 years I have owned this boat, but someone told me I have it backwards. Any opinions? Thank you.

Hello all
I am considering options for mounting a TV bracket on the port side forward above the berth that would be view able in bed or swing out and be view able from the booth and ideally lock in place when not in use. I have found some bracket arms that are used on RV's that I am considering. I am looking for ideas and guidance from anyone that has done this in the past. My initial concern is mounting. Because of the placement of the locker, there is a distinct separation between the exterior wall and the interior of the locker. Thanks in advance!

The two batteries in parallel are the starboard motor and house batteries.
The single battery is the port motor and generator if equipped.
I have 2 deep cycle batteries for the double and a regular cranking battery for the single.

So, looking at buying a 2001 310 Sundancer that appears to be pretty well maintained. There are some small visual items which I think are not uncommon for a 16 year old boat.

One thing that is holding me back is the performance. This boat has 350 MAG Horizons with V-Drive. It only ran at 28mph (don't know what the RPM was - didn't think to check) but the handles were pretty far down. What should the WOT RPM be and the corresponding speed under normal load/water conditions?

Also, the lack of a cockpit fridge bugs me. Has anyone had one installed in this particular year/model?

Thanks in advance.

I've read this entire thread a few times and as I remember the speed for the inboards seems to be quite a bit slower than i/o's. Nature of the beast. Theres lots in this thread about it. Try a search. Mine with 5.7efi/bravo 3 combo will only run about 36-38 wot. We never will run it that hard. FYI we cruise at 26-30 mph around +/-3200 rpms.
Your boat should be wired for the fridge in the cockpit. Ours was and it didnt come with one from the factory. Pull the access panel off in the port cabinet by your companionway and you should see it. No fridge in ours but its on the to-do list. Good luck!

It should do almost 34 mph at WOT
The max Rpm should be 4800
Theres something wrong if it's not achieving this IE: Bottom is fouled, motors not performing to specs.
Are you having the boat surveyed????
In my opinion V Drives are the way to go .
Better dock handling and less maintenance.

Thanks - I think we decided to shy away from buying this one.

As a reference, I just completed engine re-builds on a 2000 310 350 Mag/mpi v-drive boat and I got 36mph on gps at 4700 rpm. You should see something close on any well running 310 shaft drive.

Any advice on how to remove the v-berth bolsters (upper and lower) in my 1999 310 Sundancer. They are water stained and I want to scrub them and dry in the sun. Thanks!

I want to update my radar arch and cockpit lights to use multicolor LED festoon bulbs. I'm thinking I need 4. Two in the Radar Arch, one starboard side at the helm and one port side under the sink.
I just remembered that when standing on the dock looking at the transom, I know I put the cockpit lights on because I see light coming through the round opening where the power cord and water hose come through under the hatch for the lazarette. I'm not on the boat and it's an hour round trip. I don't see another light fixture in the parts manual in the lazarette.
Does anyone know where that light is coming from?

Mine has the same style light fixture in the transom locker as in the arch and cockpit. It is very handy when accessing the locker at night.
